She looks at the shelves in front of her, packed full of books. Books old and new. Books whose pages have been thumbed through a dozen times and books whose bindings haven't even been cracked yet. Each holds another world, another amazing tale. There are books that she has read a hundred times, stories she is familiar with, stories she has lived, adventures she has been on and there are books that contain worlds unknown to her, stories to discover, stories to experience for the first time, new adventures to live.
Smiling, she looks at the shelves that contain her many lives. Her gaze lingers on the books that hold a new life but not for long. Today, she is not seeking a new thrill, she is seeking an old one - she wants to relive the past, remember the memories those pages hold. Today, she is not looking for new friends, she wants to join her old ones again, immerse herself in the comfort of the known worlds, breathe the familiar air of the Scottish Highlands or the Long Island Coast as she falls into the tale, even if she's never known that air for herself.
As she picks up a well-worn paperback, her smile grows. It's time to go home.
