Sleeping at Last

I can't seem to get to sleep for goodness sake,
So I lay awake,
Remaining in that one same place,
All I can picture is you, your smile, your face,
It makes me feel completely safe.

Though your not really here,
And all too soon,
The picture in my head is erased,
And the feeling of happiness I once had is soon replaced,
By this terrible loneliness I can't seem escape.

Maybe one day I will move from that place,
And turn and see your beautiful face,
Once again feeling completely safe,
Curled in your arms,
My strong steel cage.

Finally my mind will drift,
My mood will shift,
My smiled returned,
Thanks to you, your face, your grace,
No one will ever replace.

You will kiss my head,
As you finally lay next to me in my bed,
You will whisper in my ear,
Although the words disappear,
But I'm sure one day I will eventually hear.

For the first time in what seems like forever,
My eyes grow heavy,
I thought they would never,
But with you, my love they close quite fast,
Sleeping at last.
