My hopes

"Hey, Reiner...?"

"Hmm?"

"If I ever make it out of here, would you still remember me?"

"Of course I would"

"Really? Even if many years pass and I change?"

"I promise that I will always recognize you, no matter how many years pass"

"How can you be so sure about that?"

"Because there is one thing I will never forget"

"What is it??"

"Your eyes, they are the only ones of  that kind in this world, that's why I will always memorize them"

"That makes me really happy... then I can sleep at ease knowing that you will always recognize me when I'm standing in front of you"

"You have my word"

"My name is (first name)"

Hope rose in your heart as you told him your name, maybe this would make him realize who was standing in front of him, he  kept eye contact with you for a second

"Nice to meet you" he replied in the same tone without showing any change of emotions after hearing your name, your eyes began shaking as you slowly looked away from his gaze knowing that he did not realize it. Mikasa walked over to you calling your name, Reiner gave you a closed eyes smile before he turned around and started walking away

"I see you around" he waved and meets up with Berthold. Mikasa stepped next to you noticing your face

"Are you alright? You look really pale?" she asked placing a hand on your shoulder, you nodded and shook off her hand slowly

"I'm fine, don't worry about me" she pulled her hand back and looked at you back

"We should go help Eren, he got himself in trouble and the instructor is probably not going to let him get away with it easily" you started walking and Mikasa followed you without any further words.

The next morning everyone meet up at the training grounds for the first period with "how to use the 3D maneuver gear". You stood next to Sasha who was still yawning from the lack of sleep

"This is absolutely not my time... I want to go back into my bed" you smiled weakly sharing her feelings since you preferred to sleep some more yourself.

The first thing you all had to do was to run a mile in the nearby forest to boost your stamina before any gear training was on schedule, the sun started raising slowly as a mass of rookies stumbled into the woods. Mikasa took the lead quickly leaving everyone behind with ease, she was always into sports and really fit. You tried your best to keep up and fell only a few meters behind Jean and Marco. The end line was close and you boosted up all the stamina you had left and passed the others in front of you, Jean was getting angry that another girl got past him so easily and he speeded up to.

On the end line he sided with you on the same level but as he wanted to pass you his shoulder brushed yours roughly and you lost your balance. He noticed what he had done and stopped apologizing over and over again while his form bend down to help you up. Mikasa saw what happened and rushed back over to you giving Jean a death stare

"Watch where you go! This is not a competition!" she hissed at him and he froze stepping back with a sunken head

"F-Forgive me Mikasa, it was not my intention to hurt her" she ignored him and scanned your wounds. Your left arm had some scratches from the impact with the ground but otherwise you were fine

"It's nothing Mikasa, just a scratch" you tried to calm her but she silenced you by cutting you off

"Don't say it like it is ok! If that idiot would have payed more attention this would not have happened!" you looked away holding your arm for support

"It was my fault for speeding up in the end... don't blame everything on him" she got angry because you protected him

"(First name) stop it! Don't protect him now, you know that it was his fault" you shook your head

"Who cares? Nothing serious happened so please stop making such a fuss over it!" you yelled at her, Mikasa silenced and looked at your face

"We are no kids anymore, we are here to become soldiers. Wounds like this are nothing in compare what await us beyond the walls, so please forget about it!" Everyone who arrived after you heard what you said and Mikasa lowered her head feeling ashamed

"I'm sorry... I was just worried about you, I know we are here because we have a goal that we want to accomplish... forgive me" she stepped away from you and walked back to her spot where she continued to stretch herself.

You let your head fall and felt bad to have yelled at her like this, especially with so many other people around, this must be really embarrassing...

"You are (first name), right?" your head slowly raised and you looked in the eyes of Jean who stood in front of you, all you did was nod

"I... want to apologize for pushing you, it was not my intention to hurt you" you shook your head

"Don't worry about it, it's nothing serious, it was just an accident" Jean felt guilty anyway but nodded

"Let me at least treat you for dinner tonight, you can have my share to make up for the trouble I caused you..." you shook your head

"No it's fine, really please don't mention it anymore" he still insisted and suddenly someone stepped next to you

"She just said that she does not want anything isn't that enough of a no for you?" Reiner hissed towards Jean, your body froze as your eyes moved up to see him standing right next to you

"S-Sorry, I get it now" Jean said and back off slowly, Reiner looked down at you

"Are you alright?" you swallowed nervously and nodded

"Y-Yes, thank you for the help..." he nodded and examined your arm

"You should get that patched up before it gets infected" you looked at the bruise when the instructor walked up behind you

"As I see everyone made it, now we can move on to the next location, everyone follow me!" the cadets followed him and you let go off your arm pulling the end of your shirt over the wound to cover it and stepped forward

"Are you just gonna leave it like that?" Reiner asked

"You heard what the instructor said... the wound can wait" you walked another step but Reiner suddenly hold on to your wrist

"Don't take this on the light shoulder, even if it is just a small wound it can still get infected" you felt a shiver running down your spine as he touched you, it made you so happy to hear that he actually cared for you... just like he did back then.

"A-Are you really... worried about me?" his eyes widened but he still kept your wrist in his hand, you could feel his hand shaking a little which raised your heartbeat further

"Even... if you do not know me?"
