Chapter Three

I Can Run, But Not Walk. Thought Follows Close Behind Me. What Am I?

Sophie's Pov~ 

 When Mrs. Laura told me that I had to go to school, I was shocked. I thought that this was going to be fun. I guess I was wrong. It made it even worse since I had to start next Monday, which was two days away......

Monday Morning~ 

"Sophie!! Sophie.....  Wake up!!" I heard Mrs. Laura saying as she shook my shoulder.

"Yes?" I said.

"Wake up! Remember.... You have school today!" She replied. Crap! I do. I shot up out of my bed and ran into my closet. I came out of my closet with a pair of orange and yellow plaid, short shorts and a yellow shirt. I went into my bathroom and took a shower. After I ate breakfast, Troy and I got into a blue mini van and were off to school. The bad thing was that I didn'y even know the school's name.

"Why aren't we taking the limo?" I asked 

 "Because at this school, I am normal. My school is the only place I can be myself without a crazed fan asking for my autograph," he said as he looked out the window.

"Oh..." I said. After a few moments of silence, I continued, "Do you like being a famous singer?" 

"Why do you care?" He asked. I didn't reply. I could tell that he didn't want me to ask that question in the first place. When we got to school, I pulled out the paper that Mrs. Laura gave me out of my book bag. It had my class schedule and my locker number on it. I went to my locker, which was J45. I got my books and headed to my first class, social studies. When I got to the classroom, I sat all the way in the back. 

"Hey," I heard a voice say. I turned my head to the direction of the voice. When I saw the girl, I recognized her, but I didn't quite know who she was. I definitely know her from somewhere. She had beautiful red  hair and big brown eyes. But the question is, who is she?

"Hi," I replied. 

"Are you new?" She asked.

"Yea why?" I said.

"Because I haven't seen you before," she replied. "Whats your name?" 

"Sophia. But call me Sophie," I said. "What's yours?"

"Kayla!" When she said that her name was Kayla, it hit me! How could I not know that that was her!? 

"By any chance did you go to Thurgood Marshall Elementary School?" I asked.

"Yea, why?" She asked. "Are you a psychic?" She said as her eyes widened.

"No! It's me!!" I said.

"Umm... I just met you," she said.

"I am Sophie Williams!!" I said. "How could you not remember me!?!?"

"No way!!!" She said, almost falling out of her seat.

"Yea! Its me!"

"I missed you so much!!" Kayla said.

"Me too!" I said getting up to hug my all time best friend. We knew each other since first grade.

"So how did you end up here?" She asked.

"I'll tell you later," I said.

"Kk!" Yep that is definitely the Kayla I know and love.

Later, when it was time for lunch, Kayla and I sat a table by ourselves. I told her everything that has happened so far. She was happy that I got away from my parents. She was glad that I wouldn't have  to suffer anymore.

The day went by pretty fast. Kayla came over after school. I showed her around the house and she loved it. We swam in the pool for a couple of hours. When it was time to eat dinner, we ate some hamburgers and hot dogs that Mrs. Laura had grilled for us. 

Today ended up being the best day of my life, other than the day I got adopted.
