You May Strongly Dislike This Idea But...

Jack and I were nearing the Gala's entrance, when I suddenly got nervous again. Jack must have noticed because he said: "Don't worry. I'll have you in my sights. The entire time." His words did barely anything to comfort me, but I did get a little less anxious. I also gained more stomach flies than before. I don't know why.

Rich people were walking in as pairs, arms locked. Guess fancy people do that. Jack glanced over to me, locking eyes with mine. I just blinked at him for a few seconds, trying to figure out what he wanted. I finally decided to lock arms with him, just as the other couples. He looked away. Now I could tell that he was asking if I would allow him to lock arms with me.

We waited in the longest line I've ever seen. I used this time to listen on different conversations. I acted like I was fixing my dress. I leaned my ear towards the people in front of me.

"I don't want to see any bad behavior! I don't want to see you with anyone else. Don't talk to anyone else. You hear me?" A man was threatening his partner.

"Yes, sir." She mumbled.

"Good."

Reminds me of my mom and dad.

"Name?" The list holder asked.

"Morrison." Jack replied. The man nodded then looked to me. "And guest." He made a smile to me. The list holder nodded. He made a smile at the sight of Morrison and his partner. He let us through.

Easy enough.

We walked around, and it was super busy. The area reminded me of the ballroom in Cinderella! Morrison said small hellos to faces I did not recognize. Their faces were in my mind forever. I had a photogenic memory. Name face recognition was easy. People were holding champagne. I declined drinks, and so did Morrison. People were dancing to elegant music.

"You and your lady should dance!" A rich snob insisted. Jack laughed nervously. I looked around. This could be a good spot to figure out information... Jack must have thought the same thing, for he got down on one knee, and took one on my hands in both of his.

"May I have this dance?" He was copying the other rich people so we fit in. His blue eyes shown one message: You may not like this idea but...

Men were kissing their lady's hands when they invited them to dance. I blinked acknowledgement and acceptance to the idea. Jack turned a bit red as he slowly brought my gloved hand up to his face. He laid a soft kiss on it, only making me red like him. "I do accept your invitation." I smiled. Jack smiled back, rising back to his actual height. He kept a hand on mine, as he lead me to the crowd of elegant dancing couples.

He knew how to dance. I on the other hand...did not. "How do you do this?" I whispered, blushing from embarrassment.

"I'll lead you, just follow along. I'll bring you towards the people in question." Jack and I locked eyes. I nodded.

"Lead the way." I smiled.

He looked around to see what move would get us to blend in the most. He looked slightly anxious. He put his hand to my lower back, and the other one held my right hand. I put my free hand around his neck, just as all the other women did. We moved gracefully, and on the beat. We slowly made our way towards the richer snobs. I heard many people talk to their partners. I heard some interesting dialogue. I guess some of these men paid their dates to come with them. That's funny. Jack lead me further and further into the center of the dancers. The entire time my eyes were locked onto his. His eyes were so blue, and his skin was partially pink in the face. I guess this was taking a toll on him. He must be getting tired.

Finally, we were near the main founders of the corporation. "The presentation is going to be in fifteen minutes. Every face will be recorded. They will become one of us as soon as they see the red light. We will make sure all of these people are hallucinated into our program."

I guess Morrison heard this too, for he began to move us away and towards the exit. We couldn't leave through the exit, so we looked towards a hallway. We snuck through it. We were now in an alleyway. We weren't supposed to be in this tiny area. We had to wait out the gala's presentation.

I remembered that girl from before, who had an abuser for a partner. I decided to rush back in. Jack whispered "Don't go back in!", but it was too late. I went in. I made my way through the group of rich people, trying to find that one specific girl. I finally found her in the bathroom, applying an excessive amount of makeup to her eye.

"You need to come with me!" I persisted, and she finally complied. I took her hand, and sprinted to the hallway. I was stealthy so no one noticed our secretive plan. I made it back outside. Jack sighed in relief.

"Run all the way to end, something bad is gonna happen in there, and that abuser guy you call your partner is gonna take it like a man." I rushed her onwards.

"Thank you so much." She mumbled, giving me a hug. She ran off, holding her high heels. Her ankles had bruises, and that was how I knew I did the right thing.

Jack and I stared at the moon as we waited out the presentation. But I guess they realized our absence. We were very far into the alley, and it was a dead end due to us taking the wrong path. We heard quick and heavy footsteps coming towards us. "What do we do?!" I couldn't help but be worried.

Jack locked eyes with me, trying to send a message. But he felt he had to vocalize this one as well.

"You may strongly dislike this idea but-"

Jack was cut off by a kiss to his lips. We held the kiss for a few moments, then I stopped. I realized what I just did. "OH MY GOD I AM SO SORRY-"

"I guess you knew my idea." He brought me to the dead end and put me against the wall. He was going to body block me if a bullet were to be shot but I insisted in being in front of him. He would not accept my idea. "You are more important, let me be in front." I whispered.

"No I'm not, you are."

"But you are the head of Overwatch!!!"

"That doesn't matter, I'm not letting you get shot first."

I finally let him keep me against the wall.

We were trying to make this as authentic as possible. The footsteps of security guards became louder as we got ready for whatever came next. We kept kissing at different intervals. I'm not gonna lie, I am bad kissing. He put his hands on the sides of my waist and I put mine on his cheeks. I never kissed anyone so, I was not experienced enough to make this look real. Jack seemed to know what he was doing, I mean he is the head of Overwatch after all. He could get any girl he wants.

The men walked in on our "make out session". I had my eyes shut, both so I didn't cry, and so it looked realistic. I kept kissing Jack in a pattern, slowly getting better at it.  Jack finally stopped as soon as one of the men tapped him. We both looked to him, blushing in "embarrassment".

"Okay love birds, lets go back to the Gala. You missed the presentation." One man said with no emotion. The men walked in sync as they lead us to the party. One of the men was not walking in sync, instead he playfully punched Jack in the shoulder. "You finally got a girl, man!" He acted like I couldn't hear him. Jack turned even more red. "I wonder what would have happened if we didn't find you!" This man needs to shut up. It was so we weren't shot on sight by these security guards.

But I'm not going to lie, I did enjoy it while it lasted.
