From Albus Severus Potter
To Sirius Orion Black
Written on a ripped-out page of the unused homework planner Rose gave him for his birthday.

Dear Sirius,

Uh, hi. I've never really written to a dead person before, much less someone I've never met. I'm Harry's son; you were his godfather, weren't you? Anyway, my brother James is named after you... Well, his full name is James Sirius Potter. Bloody hell, I suck at this.

Anyway, over Christmas break, James snuck into Dad's study and nicked something from his desk. Though he doesn't apply himself in his studies like Mum wishes he would, he's a pretty smart bloke, so he figured out the secret of the stolen parchment pretty quickly: it's a map, see. The Marauder's Map.

He showed it to me once he figured it out, and ever since then, I've been calling him Padfoot (We refer to Grandad as Prongs, so it would be a bit weird calling James that, too). Padfoot kind of stuck. I accidentally said it in front of Dad and he laughed, but I think I saw him tear up a a bit.

You don't know how much you meant to him,
--Albus
