Chapter 5

Shravan sighed loudly. He had been sitting in that wheelchair for the last 4 hours, and he needed to go to the loo. As per the doctor's advice, he should go to the loo every hour. But for some reasons, he wasn't comfortable asking for the male help Ravi, in front of Suman.

Thinking about the girl the corner of his lips curved up a bit. That idiot had somehow managed to make a place in his life. No, he wasn't looking for anything more than friendship, actually, if he pondered carefully, there wasn't even a friendship. Still, he liked spending time with her.

Shravan had seen the world, he would know if someone was faking or that's their true self. Suman was an out and out innocent girl, she didn't know how to conceal her emotions. And what made it worse for her was, she was a blusher. He had seen her, looking at him and blushing profusely when she thought he wasn't paying attention. How he wished there was a way to peek into her mind.

Shravan wouldn't lie, it felt good when he found her looking at him every now and then. Her eyes were so expressive that he could tell that she was attracted to him. He gazed down at his feet. This would be equal to blasphemy if he thought about being attracted to her. He wasn't the man that he used to be, hell, he wouldn't even categorise himself as a man, how could he, when for the smallest of things he needed someone's help. He was nothing but a vegetable.

"That went well," Rosemary came in front of Shravan, "with Suman." Shravan chuckled, "Ravi is coming. I'll set your bed, you need to lie down." She caressed his cheeks, "Go. Ravi is waiting for you. Finish there, and come here quickly."

With the help of Ravi, and then Rosemary he changed into his cotton t-shirt and cotton loose pants, and slowly they held him tightly to put him into the bed. A small relaxing sigh slipped out of his mouth. Closing his eyes he marvelled the softness of the bed.

"Suman, calls you the Lucifer in a man's skin. Why do you irritate her so much?" Tucking him in his bed, Rosemary smiled, "You like her this much?"

Shravan choked on his own saliva, "What are you saying, Aunty! She is just an employee. And I don't irritate her, she is nothing but an idiot. She got her credentials, certificates and yet she is here. With her marks, she will get far better jobs than this."

"You cannot deny that you like her." She sat beside him on his bed, "Not everyone is Alisha, Baba." She smiled as she slowly removed a hair strand from his eyes, "Suman is really a good girl, maybe she wants to be here."

"Open your eyes, Aunty. And look at me. From which angle do you find me fine enough to entertain such thoughts?" He was tired . . . tired of everything, "Allowing this would be a sin. A young girl like her deserves far better than this." He motioned with his right hand over his body.

"What if she chooses to stay with you. Will you?"

"No. First of all, any sane woman wouldn't, and even if she does then I will have to fire her." He closed his eyes, "Make sure to switch off the light before you go, Aunty. Goodnight.".

And that's how a thought which stayed under the thick layer of the subconscious, made a visible stir on the outer layer. He liked Suman and he knew it. The girl never tried to impress him, she never tried to sympathise with him. If he would insult her, she would retort back. She never thought to spare his feelings just because he was sitting in a wheelchair. How he had missed this little normalcy in his life. How he would do anything to change his present and future, which seemed to have stuck in a wheelchair.
