home on the road

I woke up to see my MacBook was opened on FaceTime. The screen showed my sleeping boyfriend lying in his bunk on his tour bus. He has been on tour for a couple of months now, and it has been hard on us. The time difference was anywhere between five to seven hours apart which made it hard for us to talk. At the moment, it was 2:30 am, but for Shawn it was 8:30.

I heard someone call Shawn's name, and I saw his eyes flutter open before shutting again.

"I feel so bad for keeping you up," I said.

Shawn jerked up and hit his head on the top of the bunk. He let out a string of curses and rubbed his head. Looking around his bunk, he finally noticed his propped up phone.

"Sorry, baby. I didn't mean to scare you," I apologized.

He shrugged and smiled down at his phone.

"You honestly didn't scare me. I forgot where I was, and I thought you were here," he admitted.

"I wish I could get a day off, so I could see you," I sighed.

"I miss you like crazy, but we'll be ok, alright? We both have busy jobs," he replied.

"I miss you too, and I know we'll be fine. I mean, c'mon. It's us," I laughed.

"Against the world," he winked.

"More like, across the world," I joked.

"Shawn, breakfast in thirty," a guy yelled.

Shawn sent me a look and rolled his eyes.

"I'll see you later, I guess. Bye! I love you," he said.

"I love you. Bye," I said as Shawn ended the call.

"I'm such a good actress. I should be on tv," I told myself as I zipped up my suitcase.

Little did Shawn know that I had been planning to join him on tour for months. I talked to his management and quit my job to finish off the tour with him. I had another one lined up when I came back, and I felt like it was the perfect time to both visit Shawn and quit my dead end job. Tomorrow I'm seeing Shawn!

the next day

After my long overseas flight, I took a cab to the hotel Shawn was staying in. It was only a little after ten, and he had the day off. I couldn't wait to surprise him.

Once I arrived at the hotel, I texted Charlie to ask what room he was in. Once he responded, I made my way up to his room and knocked on his door. I was greeted with a hug almost as soon as the door swang open.

"He's going to freak out when he sees you! I'm so excited," he said.

"I'm definitely not as excited as you, but let's get this started," I joked.

Charlie sent Shawn a text to meet him in his room to talk to him about something while I hid in his bathroom. As soon as I heard a door open and quickly shut, my heart began to pound.

"What's up, man?" Shawn asked.

"Well, I was going to go over a few things with you for tomorrow's show, but you look a little stressed. Now it's my turn to ask 'What's up?'," Charlie replied.

"It's Y/N. She can't come for tour because her boss won't let her off. I even called the man twice today, and he won't budge. On top of that, she hasn't texted me back in like twelve plus hours," Shawn rambled.

I checked my phone once he said that, and sure enough I had 14 calls and 38 texts from the man himself.

babe💘: I'm seriously worried about you... You always answer me

I decided to answer back to calm his nerves although he was soon to find out how safe I am.

my girl💙: so so sorry I've been uber busy😭🙄

"Well, she's not dead. She just texted me," Shawn said.

"See! You're worrying for nothing. She's a big girl," Charlie joked.

"I just miss her so much. Dude, I can't think straight most of the time. I hate not having her here," he groaned.

"Hey, Charlie, who's your friend in there?" I asked in my best English accent since that's where we were.

"Charlie, do you have a woman in this room?" Shawn teased.

I came out to see Shawn's back facing me.

my girl💙: That woman is right behind you

Shawn gasped once he checked his phone. Charlie grinned at him. I came up behind him and snaked my arms around his neck.

"Miss me?" I whispered in his ear.

Shawn turned his head towards me in utter shock.

"But you had work," he stuttered.

"I quit," I smiled.

Something kicked a gear inside him because he jumped out of his chair and picked me up in a hug.

"I missed you so much. I was actually about to book a ticket to fly back and see you," he mumbled in my hair.

"You would have missed at least one show. Management would never have let you do that," I reminded him.

"Management could kiss my left foot. I missed my baby," he whined.

"I missed you too. Home wasn't home without you," I said.

Shawn leaned in and placed his lips passionately on mine. I kissed him back, and we held the kiss until we ran out of breath. Shawn rested his forehead against mine, breathing heavily. He placed my hand over his quick beating heart.

"Welcome home," he said.

If the ending wasn't clear, he was suggesting that his heart was her home. That was a weird ending, but I thought it was cute.
