I was going to go crazy in that room with nothing to do. Too many things were going through my mind and I had no way of blocking them out.

"Ah!" I threw a pillow at the wall.

"What did that poor pillow ever do to you?"

I jumped and spun around. Brennan was standing in the doorway. "Even if it is your house, you should knock before you enter someone's room."

"I was about to then I heard the shout. Forgive me if I forgo pleasantries for the sake of keeping you safe."

"Why are you here? I haven't left my room?" I asked.

"I'm aware of that. I thought you might be bored and a little hungry."

"And you're here to entertain me?"

He rolled his eyes. "Are you coming or not? I still have work to do." He walked down the hall as if he expected me to follow him. "I should apologize for earlier. I was a little stressed about work. What I said was correct though but I will apologize for the way I said it. It was wrong of me and your actions were understandable. You don't know me." He paused. "Your friend knows you're okay. I didn't mean to be so harsh before."

I followed him down the hall. "It's okay, I guess." I wasn't sure what else to say about that. I was surprised he was apologizing in the first place. "Where are we going?"

"The kitchen."

"The kitchen? Why?"

"Dinner. Obviously."

I grinned. "Did Thomas threaten you again about eating your vegetables?"

He glared at me. "Of course not. If you have a problem with eating then you're free to go back to your room."

Brennan opened the door to a large fancy kitchen that was sparkling clean.

"Where is everyone... That old man!" He pulled out his phone. "Where is he?" I couldn't hear what Zahir said. Brennan groaned then slowly smiled. "Two can play that game. Check your desk." He waited a bit. "Yeah. That's for stealing my exotic teas." Exotic teas? "Of course I know how to cook." He glanced at me. "I'll talk to you about that later. I have company... Yeah. I'll make sure of it." He hung up.

"What was all that about?" I asked.

"He decided to mess with me. He sent the entire kitchen staff on a week vacation," Brennan said.

"He didn't seem like someone that would do something like that."

"Well, he is. He's been pulling pranks on me for the past few weeks now. I think he's getting bored since I took over the family 'business'." Brennan rolled up his sleeves to his elbows. He went to the cupboards. "Looks like we'll have to cook for ourselves."

"Uh, I don't know how to cook." Mom had always insisted on doing it herself, even when she'd become weaker.

He turned around. He was looking at me like I was an idiot again. "Did you just tell me you don't know how to cook? If you don't know then figure it out."

"I can't just figure it out."

He slammed the cupboard door shut and rested his head against it. "She's an idiot. A bloody fool," he muttered.

"Hey! No need to be rude."

He came towards me. He pushed me into a chair and pulled another in front of me. He leaned forward in the exact same way Thomas had back in my cell. Definitely brothers.

"I'm going to try to make this as simple as possible so that you understand," Brennan said. "You're connected to the Scroll of Knowledge, not Wisdom. My expectations were too high."
