"Where are we?" I asked. I stepped toward the edge of the cliff. Brennan pulled me back.
"Don't just walk out there! The ground might not be sturdy enough to hold your weight," he said.
"I think we go this way," Axel said. He pointed in the distance. We were all standing on top of a mountain. He pointed into the 'valley' below. It wasn't really a valley but more like a basin on top of a mountain. Words popped into my head but I ignored them. I didn't care what it was called. In my head it was a basin because that's what it looked like.
There was a large stone building, almost like a castle but without the moat, surrounded by very sharp looking rocks. Only where we were and the top of the basin had grass.
Thomas pushed him back. "Not so fast. There could be monsters."
Axel smirked. "Not a problem." He pointed at a nearby tree. Water shot out and the tree splintered.
"You hurt a tree," Thomas said. "How impressive." The tree burst into flames.
The tree froze.
"Can we please try not to destroy this place before Amber gets to see her Scroll and make a portal to safety?" Shay asked. She crossed her arms. "Since you're so eager to prove your strength then," she gestured ahead of her, "go see if there are any monsters. Jacket." She held out her hand.
Thomas took off his jacket and gloves and handed them to her. They glared at each other before walking down the sides of the basin. Brennan moved to follow them. Shay held out a hand and blocked him.
"I say we stay here and watch," she said, grinning.
"There are monsters there, aren't there?" Brennan asked.
Her grin widened. "Oh, most certainly."
"How do you know?" I asked.
"Fire wasn't the only reason I froze that tree."
I looked closer at the tree. "What is that thing?" This time I actually wanted to tap into the Scroll but nothing was coming up. I wasn't seeing it clearly enough.
"Your mother's creation I'm sure," Shay said. She sat on the grass and patted the spots next to her. "Let's watch them."
Brennan sat next to her and I sat on her other side.
"I thought you would want to join them," he said.
Her eyes twinkled. "How much do you want to bet they call for help in five minutes?"
"I bet a Lamborghini they call in three," Brennan said.
"You want a Lamborghini?" Shay asked.
"Everyone wants a Lamborghini, but I don't want to spend my money on it."
"Fine."
They shook hands.
I shook my head. I wish I could talk as easily about money like that. I pushed business thoughts out of my head. I'll deal with my finances later when there wasn't a Greek god who was trying to capture me and my magic key that gave access to a magic Scroll containing all known knowledge which could be magically combined with other rings.
That had to be the weirdest sounding excuse I'd ever come up with and that's saying something.
I turned my attention back to the two men in the basin. Shadows darted between the rocks. They looked around.
"Did they only just notice that they're surrounded?" Brennan asked in disgust. Figures jumped on them. "Are those... toys? Her booby trap was toys?"
