Chapter 29:

"Put me down. What the hell do you think you're doing!" Shion yelled as he flailed within Orion's arms.

Holding his large bouquet of flowers with a unbecoming pout scrawled over his face, Shion unhappily let himself be carried all the way to the exit. He made an effort to hide his face as much as possible.

"Does it not bother you that a picture of you carrying a man may be all over the internet tomorrow?" Shion protested.

"It would be great if the whole world knew I was carrying you around," Orion uttered.

Shion stopped mid-sentence as his head turned dramatically around to face Orion.

"And why the hell would that be?" Shion asked.

Hope surged in his heart. Long-forgotten hope that had died in his chest when he'd left his home half a decade ago.

"The pesky flies that surround me may drop off and die," replied Orion.

The rising hope was crushed in a matter of seconds with one sentence.

In place of the hope was acceptance. He'd been used to Orion's attitude for a long time now. Such a response was natural for him as if he were some king looking down on his commoners.

Once they'd successfully crossed the automatic doors of the hospital, Shion jumped out from Orion's arms in a sudden, jerky movement. The movement was unexpected causing Orion to lose his balance momentarily and release Shion from his tight hold.

"I'm fine now. I was just released from the hospital. I don't need you to carry me. Stop treating me as if I'm a piece of glass. If I were a piece of glass, I would have broken a long time ago. I'm going home now, so go find someone else to annoy," Shion shot over his shoulder as he sped away to the taxi stand.

Orion, whose arms suddenly felt too empty and light, looked at his arms, then at the stand and back at his arms. The sudden emptiness pulled gently at a heart string. The thrum of the heart string was ignored as he chuckled and picked up a few flowers from the roughly handled bouquet. Grasping three stargazer lilies, Orion headed back to his car. He drove on the road while thinking about Shion's outburst. In the past, Shion had never been one to share his thoughts, so his outburst today was quite surprising. As far as Orion was aware, Shion usually kept to himself and spoke only when he felt like it. He treasured is family and held a laidback attitude to just about everything else. At which point in time did Shion become such a high-strung person who required such high maintenance, Orion didn't know, but that wouldn't stop him from accompanying him.

Within Shion's outburst though, there was a particular sentence that hit him harder than the rest. Although it was directly his fault, Shion's family had essentially gone bankrupt because of him. Five years ago, seeing his first and only friend's company just starting out so small and pitiful, he decided to anonymously assist the Halsire company in becoming larger to support Shion. The Lukenlore company indirectly helped the Halsire company grow larger in their field. Niel had used a few branch companies to purchase products from the Halsire company, so that the Lukenlore name wouldn't be involved. A little later, larger branch companies were added as well. When the Halsire family went bankrupt, it was because the Lukenlore family withdrew their support. Usually this wouldn't be enough to cause a bankruptcy; however, there were many companies wanting to suck up to the Lukenlore family. With some added jealousy, the Halsire company became quite infamous as the company that the Lukenlore family abandoned. No one would trade with the Halsire company which caused Shion's father to realize that he was no longer making a profit, and was instead losing money to make products that weren't being sold. With the added research and improvement costs, the amount of money being lost each day was no small number. So, when a single company went into negotiations with the Halsire company, Shion's father was ecstatic. In the end negotiations were dealt and products were sent out. However, the company that bought the products filed for bankruptcy as well which left the Halsire company with nothing. In the business world, it wasn't difficult to drag another person down to bankruptcy. The company that had pulled the Halsire company down to bankruptcy was a company that had wanted to drag one of its competitors down as well in a crash and burn tactic.
