Never

Some days
I wonder if true love
Is just a cruel lie
Designed to create
Heartbreak.
Many of these days are the days
I sit beside her,
Watching the stars and
Inventing constellations
To pass the time.

Her laughter is like gold,
Her eyes glitter like jewels, and
Her smile shines
Brighter than the sun.
Yet every beat
Of my wilting heart
Brings only more pain.

More than anything, I want to
Hold her
In my arms,
Press my lips
Against her cheeks,
Take her hands
In my own, and say
"I love you",
But
I know
It can never be.

Why?

Because she's a girl
And
So am I.

My friends say I should tell her,
But I don't want to because
I know
She doesn't swing that way.

I know
She'll never be mine, but
I can't let go.
I keep telling myself
I've forgotten her, but
I never have and
I'm dead-terrified
I never will.

At least now
I know
Why it's called
A crush
Because this is destroying me.

Every day I sink
Deeper into a sea of
Despair
Clinging desperately
To a hope
That never even
Existed.

I know,
An eternity could pass and
Nothing would change.
I know
And I hate it.

Some days
I wonder if true love
Is a cruel lie
Designed to create
Heartbreak.
Many of these days are the days
I wish
I'd never
Met her.
