Chapter Nine: The Date

Pippa's POV:

As I leave the apartment I see the pain in Lin's eyes. I feel terrible about putting him through this but I don't know what I want yet. I can't believe he covered for me, I mean I know why he did it but he didn't have to. He could tell Daveed everything that has been going on and tell him to back off.

"Hey Pippa you okay? You look stressed." I need to just worry about this later or Daveed will know something is up.

"Yeah sorry. I've just been super busy and haven't gotten much sleep." This isn't a complete lie. I have been busy with Sebby, and I haven't been able to sleep with everything going on.

"We could have done this at a better time."

"No it's fine. Tonight is one of the few nights we are both free. So where are we going anyway?" Daveed smiles at me but doesn't answer.

I've always thought that he had a nice smile but I never realized how cute it is. Daveed's whole personality is really attractive actually. I guess I never noticed since I wasn't looking at him in a romantic way.

Daveed notices me staring causing his smile to grow. "What are you looking at?"

"I just never noticed how cute you are." I say smiling back at him.

"Cute? Not sexy?" He says joking around.

"Well cute sounds better than sexy. All I'm saying is that you are attractive okay." I can feel my cheeks turning red.

"Oh no the cinnamon roll is blushing. Will you blush more if I tell you I think you are beautiful?" I feel my face getting hotter. Could I really have feelings towards Daveed? "By the way that's my way of saying I find you attractive."

To get the attention off me I change the subject. "Are you going to tell me where we are going or not?" Daveed makes a thinking face for a moment.

"No. But we are here now so you can see for yourself."

I look out the window and see beautiful trees in a grass field.

"When I need time to myself I come here to get away from the city. I thought we could have a picnic here without the public suspecting anything." Daveed says grabbing a picnic basket from the trunk.

"Do you mind grabbing the blanket? It's in the back seat."

I find the red and blue blanket and lay it out on the grass. Daveed brings over the food and we have a really nice dinner together.

We loose track of time laughing together. We realize how long it has been once misquotes start to come out.

We get in the car and chat some more before we leave. The conversation pauses when Daveed asks me a complicated question.

"Do you mind if I kiss you Pippa?"

For a moment all the drama with Lin and I disappears from my thoughts. All I can think of is why not? I'm enjoying my time with Daveed.

I realize I have been thinking for a while when Daveed gets my attention again. "Hey I don't want to pressure you if you don't want to. I get it." I look ar him as see the disappointment. He starts to talk again but I'm not listening. I reach over, grab his face and kiss him.

When the kiss breaks I can't help but giggle. "Sorry, it was good but I never thought I would be kissing Daveed Diggs." Daveed just laughs at this. "And I never thought I would be on a date with the amazing Phillipa Soo."

He goes in for a second kiss but I stop him. "Look I know I was really forward by kissing you. I just want to take things slow. There is just a lot going on right now."

He looks happier than I thought he would by this. "Hey Pippa I get it. With everything that happened a few months ago I completely understand. I didn't think you would ever agree to a date. That's why I left you little gifts and notes."

"Thanks for understanding Daveed." I kiss him on the cheek. If he only knew what has happened the past two months. He would not ask me out.

"I just got over someone too. Not in the same way but getting over someone you love is hard."

I get a text from Lin asking when I'll be home.

Lin😊: Hey Pip! I know you are on your date and I don't want to bother you, but Sebby won't go to sleep. He said he wants you to read him a story. I'm so sorry I didn't want to ask but I've been trying for the last hour and a half.

"Lin just texted me, he needs help with Sebastian. Do you mind driving me back home?"

"Of course not." Daveed smiles and starts the car.

Pippa: No problem I'll be there in a few minutes.

Once we get back to my apartment Daveed offers me to walk me up, I decline to the offer not wanting to make things awkward between Lin and Daveed.

"Come on it's not a big deal. Just let me walk you up."

"No really it's fine. Sebastian probably needs me right now. I'll see you tomorrow at the theatre." I kiss him on the cheek and run up to the apartment.

I can her Sebby crying through the door. I walk in and see Lin exhausted and Sebastian crying in his lap.

"Hey Sebby! You want me to read you a bedtime story?" I walk over to Lin and take the upset three year old out of his arms.

"Yes please mommy Pippa."

I tuck Sebby in and read the three little pigs. He falls asleep before the first pig gets his house of straw gets blown down.

I walk back into the living room and see Lin is still sitting on the couch.

"Hey thank you for coming back early from your date. I don't know what I would do without your help. How was your date anyways?" Lin looks like he genuinely cares about how it went. I'm not sure if is because he hopes it went terribly or he's just being a good friend. I'm just happy we put all the drama aside for now.

After chatting with Lin for a while I go to my room and try to go to sleep. All I can think about is everything thing with me and Lin, and how complicated my relationship with Daveed is going to be. He is already suspicious of Lin and I and we have been on one date.

I decide to go to Lin's room to see if he is still awake to talk.

"Hey Lin? Are you still up?" Lin sits up and rubs his eyes. "I just need someone to talk to."

"I'll always be here when you need me."

I thought I published this chapter a few days ago... I didn't, oops. I was going to write more but then I got stuck and I'm still super busy so I stopped. Hope you like it though.
