It was four in the morning when Rose woke up with an unsettling feeling in her stomach. Hoping this feeling would pass, she continued to lay in bed and try going back to sleep. Unfortunately, the feeling only got worse causing her to get up and run to the bathroom to vomit. Jack slowly begins waking up to the sound of Rose getting sick in the wash room; he sits up and rubs his eyes. Then he uncovers himself from the blanket and makes his way to the wash room. When he gets to the closed door of the wash room, he knocks on the door twice. "Yes?" Rose called out as she flushed the toilet, and opened the door. "Are you alright, love?" Jack sincerely asked her. "I am now, I'm just very tired and wish to get some more rest." She answered. Realizing that they had both fallen asleep in the same clothes they had on when aboard Carpathia, meaning she was still wearing Cal's jacket, she became irritated at the thought of him and quickly removed it. After removing the jacket, she remembers that her and Jack had been given extra pajamas while aboard the Carpathia. She reminded Jack and they both changed into the pajamas. Rose collected the clothing they had removed and put them inside the wash bucket located inside the wash room. While in there, she quickly grabbed a rag, one that also came with the wash bucket, and rinsed it thoroughly. She drenched it in warm water and some soap and did a quick wash up. She brushed her teeth and then went back to bed. After she returned, Jack made his way into the bathroom to do the same. Once he finished, he again rinsed the rag thoroughly and hung it over the shower bar to dry. He then also went back to their bed room. Rose was laying on her side, opposite the way Jack would be laying. She had already gone to sleep, but Jack went over to her and moved her hair out of her face, kissed her forehead, and then presumed to get back into the bed. He pulled her body close to his, and soon he fell fast asleep.
A few hours pass and Jack was first to wake up. He quietly and carefully got out of bed and made his way into the kitchen. Not knowing what Rose picked out for a breakfast food, he raided the cupboards until he found the pancake mix. He made the mix and got out a pan. He made enough of the mix for a serving of two pancakes each. To go with it, he cooked some scrambled eggs. After finishing cooking, he set up a plate for Rose, and made his way outside. It was still pretty early so no one else was up. He made his way down the steps and browsed the neighborhood. A lot of the houses have small gardens in front of their homes. When Jack spotted a garden across the street filled with all kinds of flowers, he made his way over. After examining all of them, he picked the one that in his eyes seemed to be a flawless rose. "Perfect!" he whispered to himself. He then hurried back to his house before any of his neighbors saw what he had done. He made his way up the steps and back into the house. He then set the rose directly next to Rose's plate and went back into the kitchen. He poured a glass of milk and returned to the table to put it down. Once he finished setting Rose's breakfast up, he made his plate, poured some milk and set that out for himself. When he was completely finished making their first breakfast in this house perfect, he went back into the bedroom to get Rose.
"Good morning Jack!" Rose softly said. Jack smiled in her direction, "Good morning, love. I hope you slept well after waking up so early." Jack said. "What smells so good?" Rose said as her eyes lit up. Jack smiled in excitement, "Hmm, I'm not sure. Why don't we go find out?" Jack says playfully. Rose laughs and grabs Jacks hand which he held out for her. They made their way into the living area which was shared with their dining area and Jack pulled out the chair for Rose, then he sat himself down. "Wow!" Rose said in shock. "This flower is beautiful Jack" She paused, Jack was smiling. "How did you find such a flawless rose?" She gasped. "Well, I was playing a lucky hand of poker when I won a ticket to board this huge ship called the Titanic, and she kind of just walked into my life." Jack joked. He laughed and Rose glared a playfully serious look in his direction. "I just found it, and I knew it was perfect for a perfect woman, so I picked it for you" Jack gushed. Rose's cheeks turned as red as the flower and now they were matching. "But it will die now Jack." Rose softly said. "Yeah, it will. But your beauty will not. That's the difference between you and that flower. While it ages, it will lose its beauty, but while you age, you will only get more beautiful." Jack admitted. Rose was blushing more than ever before and in order to get avoid getting redder she quickly changed the topic. "We should eat before this delicious food gets cold." She blurted out as she set the flower down and picked up a fork to begin eating. Rose appreciated the compliments that Jack gave her but due to Cal, she hadn't been used to such generosity; especially coming from a man.
When they each finish their food, Rose gathers the dishes to clean them off and sets them in the sink. "Hey, Jack. Before we leave today, I'd like to get the clothes washed so we can hang them out while we are gone. Do you think you'd be able to clean off the dishes while I do so?" Rose politely asked. Jack walked up behind Rose and wrapped his arms around her waist. They were standing in front of the sink. Jack laid his head upon her shoulder and closed his eyes. "I love you Rose." He whispered softly. His warm breath breezed along Rose's neck giving her chills. "I love you too Jack." She replied with joy in her voice. Jack kissed her on her cheek and then took himself off of her. "Go ahead and do the laundry, Hun. I'll take care of the dishes and such." Jack said with a smile. Rose leaned in to kiss him on his lips, and then went off to do the laundry. Jack stayed in the kitchen and began to scrub all of the excess food off of the dishware, into the sink. After successfully removing the excess food, he washed each dish using another old rag and rinsed each dish. He set them on a towel located upon a counter top for them to dry. He then wiped off the table and made sure it was clean. When he finished cleaning he met Rose inside the bathroom where she was finishing up on the laundry.
As Jack began making his way to the bathroom, he overheard Rose singing, "Come Josephine in my flying machine going up she goes, up she goes..." He faintly heard coming from the bathroom. Before Rose could begin singing the next part Jack walks in to sing it with her, "Balance yourself like a bird on a beam in the air she goes, there she goes!" they both sang. They continued singing the song together before they both began laughing. Rose finished up the last piece of clothing she was on and hung it outside. "I'm going to put on some new, better clothes. Then we can go." Rose told Jack. Jack had already changed before he went to make breakfast so instead he went by the door to put his shoes on. When Rose came into the living area, he held her shoes and pointed to a seat, signaling for her to sit down. After she sat down on a chair, he slipped each shoe on her foot. "Thank you, kind sir" She teased. "You're welcome, Milady" Jack teased back. "Shall we go now?" Jack said holding out his arm for Rose to link hers in. They both walked out the door and down the steps.
"So, I'm going to go up to Times Square to sketch, and hopefully sell some of my sketches. What are your plans for today?" Jack asked Rose while separating the only two house keys they had. "I'm going to go look into being a waitress, they get pretty fair tips most of the time, so we could probably benefit from that." Rose told Jack in reply while taking the spare key from him. "Alright, love. Well, let me walk you there, and then I will make my way to Times Square." Jack suggested. Rose nodded in agreement, and they made their way to a nearby restaurant. The closest one they were by that was hiring was called, 'Barbetta'. Barbetta is an Italian restaurant located about 20 minutes from their home and it was also only a few blocks away from Times Square, so Jack could drop Rose off and make his way to Times Square. As the couple approached Barbetta, Jack leaned in to kiss Rose and then hugged her. "How about we meet back here around 12, and then we can take whatever money I earn and go for some tea?" Jack suggests. Rose smiled and nodded, "Let's try to save most of your money though, one drink won't hurt, but we also have to save our money too." Rose reminded Jack. "But anyways, that sounds good, love. Wish me luck! I hope I get hired." Rose nervously said. "They will hire you, I'm sure of it. I'll see you soon, Rose. I love you!" Jack said giving her one more kiss and heading off to Times Square. "I love you too, Jack" Rose said, before he walked off, and she made her way inside. After arriving inside, she talked to the manager of the place and he was impressed with her background so he hired her on the spot. Although due to her gender, her hours and pay were cut a bit short, which meant she needed to save every penny she earned. Rose would be working three hours a day, every day and making thirty dollars a week. After saving her total paychecks, she would be making one hundred dollars monthly.
Time quickly passed and Rose left Barbetta to see her lover approaching the building. "Hello, Jack! I was hired!" Rose said in excitement. "I will only be making one hundred monthly, but if we save it we will be fine. How much did you make today, love?" Rose politely asked. "I made fifty dollars today; I think if I add more color to my work, they will sell more. But anyways, I told you that you'd get that job, love! Congratulations!" Jack happily congratulated his love. After having a seemingly long morning, the couple returned home to take a quick nap after having woken up so abruptly in the early morning. As they stepped into the house, Rose got that same unsettling feeling in her stomach and quickly ran into the bathroom. Worried, Jack ran after her and followed her into the bathroom and held her hair up out of the way. After being sick, Jack picked her up, wedding style, and laid her in bed. He lies down with her, holding her tightly and running his fingers through her hair until they both fell fast asleep.
