After school, I went home with Jake and not even bothering to say goodbye to Jamie.
"Hello mother" I greeted and raced into the kitchen. My mom was preparing one of her best delicacies. "Hello Daughter of mine " she greeted back and smiled at me. I quickly kissed her cheek and sat across the table waiting for her to give me a plate of the sweet meal she was cooking.
"How was school sweetheart" she asked and immediately the thoughts of Jamie came flowing in. "same old, nothing special " I responded a little sadder than I had hoped. " is everything okay at school? Is someone bullying you? " my mom asked getting angry. "Geez mom calm down, everything is fine I'm just a little tired that's all " I responded and that seemed to calm her down. " where's daddy?" I asked. " At work" my mom replied and gave me a plait of food to eat. I ate till I couldn't move.
" Kayla you should go on a diet " my mom said as she laughed at me. "it's not my fault you make the best meals" I grinned as I tried to crawl upstairs. "be careful Sweetheart" she yelled after and I yelled "Yes mother " back to her.
I crawled up the stairs and fell flat on the floor the minute I entered my room. After a short nap I woke up and got refreshed.
My phone was still in my bag and I had a feeling Janice was going to kill me for not picking her call. She called ten times and sent a text. "Kay you annoying piece of human. Why aren't you taking my calls? Keep tomorrow free we're going shopping" the text read and I just smiled to myself.
The other messages were from Jamie. He had called me thirty times. No wonder I had a low battery.
Jamie: I'm sorry please pick the call
Jamie : Kay please, I know I was an ass but please don't do this
Jamie :I miss you
Jamie: pick the call dammit
Jamie: I'm sorry I didn't mean that
Jamie :I just want to apologize babe
Jamie :If you can, please meet me at the beach close to your house at 7
I looked at the time and it was already 8:30. He must have gone home by now. But I still wanted to check to be sure. Everything is possible with Jamie. " Be right back mom" I yelled as I ran out of the house.
Just as I'd predicted, Jamie was still at the beach. He stood facing the ocean with his hand in his pocket. I walked slowly towards him and stood beside him. His eyes were shut and tears flowing from them. He looked so sad and my heart broke. "Jamie" I said softly, my voice breaking. He quickly opened his eyes and his head turned to my direction.
"oh Kay I'm so sorry" he said his voice wavering as if he was about to burst out crying. "I didn't mean to go all cave man on you" he continued and I just rushed into his arms. I hugged him tightly not wanting to let go. He hugged me back and lifted me off the ground. I broke the hug and looked him in the eye.
"I love you Kayla " he said sincerely and I smiled at him. "I love you more " responded and he kissed my forehead.
"just so we're clear I wasn't ignoring you, I was asleep" I said with a sly smile. His eyes grew wide before embarrassment masked his features. He quickly let me down and put his face in his palm.
"You scared shit out of me" he said and laughed in disbelief. "I thought you wanted to break up with me" he continued. " Jamie technically we're not dating yet" I said trying to hold in my laugh.
"let's change that shall we" he said with a grin. I just looked at him as he moved around me to get to his bag. it was dark so on couldn't really see what he was doing. He moved from his bag and started lighting up candles. He had already placed the candles on the floor to form a heart. There was rose petals in the middle and it was just beautiful. I could see his face clearly now.
He moved close to me and pulled me to the center of the heart. His smile faded and he was now serious. He looked me in the eye and got one knee. My heart literally exploded in my chest.
