EIGHTEEN
Another month went by rather quickly, though it mostly just consisted of me hanging out with my cousins, annoying Tristan, doing schoolwork, and going on many first dates as part of my goal. Not once did I go on a second date, which was starting to bother me. Seriously, how hard is it to meet someone that you'd actually want to date? Clearly it was harder than I expected, and much more frustrating.
"Maybe you're being too picky," Andie stated, sitting on her bed across from Morgan and me. We had stopped by her house to wish her family a happy Thanksgiving.
I sighed, shaking my head disappointedly. "Well I haven't exactly been on dates with real winners so far," I said a little bitterly.
"Hey, all we're saying is that you should look past some of the guys' annoying habits or traits. Relationships aren't supposed to be a cake walk all the time," Morgan defended. I smiled at her with raised eyebrows.
"Oh, thank you relationship guru," I said sarcastically.
She rolled her eyes at me playfully. "So, how's Zack?" she asked Andie, ignoring my sarcastic comment.
Andie immediately grinned, pleased with the change of subject. "I have a date with him!"
"Really?" Morgan asked happily.
Andie nodded. "Yeah! I think Tristan finally talked to him because it seems like he was pushed in the right direction. We're going out tomorrow night."
"It's about time Tristan talked to him," I said. They both stared at me, as if they expected me to say that. "What? He said he'd talk to Zack like a month ago," I continued defensively.
"That's great you got a date with him. You better tell us all about it," Morgan demanded.
"Yeah, I want to hear about this Zack character," I said suspiciously. I barely knew him, probably because he was friends with Tristan and Logan. I never found myself wanting to hang out with them willingly.
"Anyway, we should probably get going to the grocery store," my cousin said. We were supposed to be picking up a few last minute things for the Thanksgiving dinner Aunt Julie was cooking.
"Alright, I'll talk to you later," Andie replied.
Eventually we were following the list Aunt Julie gave us, which only included a few items that were needed for today's meal. I thought she had these items too, but I guess she ran out. Either way, we got everything and were back at the house in less than an hour, where we were greeted with delicious smelling foods.
"Wow, are we feeding an army as well?" I laughed, looking at the foods she finished preparing.
"No, but I am feeding two families today," she replied as she stirred a pot of stuffing.
"What?" I asked, confused what she meant by her comment. "I thought it was just us."
Aunt Julie looked amused. "I told you a week ago that the Parkers were joining us for Thanksgiving. Then again, you were paying more attention to the television than me," she said, smiling at me before returning to tend to the food.
"I thought you knew this?" Morgan asked, noticing my shocked expression. When I didn't answer, she continued. "I guess that's why you weren't complaining about it this morning." She chuckled and walked out of the kitchen before I could say anything back.
"I wanted to do this for them," Aunt Julie started explaining. "I'm sure the divorce has been hard on the kids."
"Aunt Julie, Tristan and Kaylin are hardly kids."
