The shedding problem

It was time for Alfred to shed his skin.  He was glad that he could finally take off his wrinkly old coat and have a fresh one again.
The snake coiled himself around a rock and started to wriggle with enthusiasm.
He wanted to be shiny again but he knew it was a process that should not be rushed.
The snake remembered last years summer, when his scales were a mix of glistening brown-and-black patterns sprinkled with a sheen of rainbow colors.
It was nearly spring, which meant that he would soon be blooming with bright colours again.
He disliked being dull and boring, which he currently was because of his old, grey skin.
Alfred squirmed a little bit more and felt his worn out skin starting to come off.
He twisted one more time.
Unexpectedly, his skin came off.
Alfred was launched forward, but instead of tearing through the skin he skidded around in a circle.
After a couple of rounds he started to feel dizzy.
Alfred was feeling like he was going to throw up when the earth started to rumble and shake and the skin tore open, surprising him.
