Abe may have set us free, but did slavery ever end?
Through segregation and discrimination
A product of this 'oh so great' nation
The wounds have yet to mend
The color of our skin has set us at a disadvantage
We start the race a minute late
The others have a closer finish line, no debate
We're just expected to manage
When we stand up we are told to sit down
'wait your turn, it's not that bad'
It's irritating, just a tad
I feel an incoming meltdown
So, I will take a knee
I make a fist
But not in spite of those who enlist
It's because I want them to see
The pain they've caused, the pain they excuse
To pay, they have so many dues
