Dean opened the door to see Mr Lupin standing there, along with a man with blonde hair and happy blue eyes. He was holding someone that looked eerily like the pictures of Bellatrix he'd seen in the newspaper, but this woman was slimmer, more lithe, less mad, and more beautiful. Her dark brown hair, so different from Bellatrix's, was soft. Her eyes met his and she burst into tears. Lupin looked stressed beyond belief.

"Mrs Thomas?" Lupin called out, as Dean turned around to see that his mother's face showed only shock. "May we come in?"

"I-" She seemed speechless for a moment, and Dean felt so bad for her. Here these people were, and she knew they wanted to take away her son, yet she was supposed to just let them in? Then a huge smile, a fake one, but better than nothing, graced her face. "Yes, of course! Why don't you join us for dinner? I'm afraid Donovan isn't here right now," referring to Dean's step-dad. "But I've made enough for all of us!"

"Umm..." When Lupin hesitated, the man behind him nudged him.

"Go on Remus," Ted said sadly. "She deserves an explanation anyhow."

"Yes, I do." She replied in the next room. "Now, come, it's ready."

She had made meatloaf, and she made the best meatloaf.

For awhile there was simply silence in the room, as all of them tried to grasp their own situation. Then Dean spoke up, blushing slightly when everyone turned to him. He was glad for the dark complexion he had gotten from being outside now, it hid it better.

"It's nice to see you Mr Lupin." He smiled awkwardly at his old Professor. "And it's awful nice to meet you two as well, Ted and..."

"Andromeda." The woman said, drying her eyes using a napkin and staring at him kindly. She had been crying before, but now she steeled herself for the hard months to come. "But everybody calls me Andy."

"It's nice meeting all of you, yes." His mother said. "But what are you doing here, exactly? Dean tried to explain, but..." she tried hopelessly to keep the tears out of her eyes. "Does he really have to leave?"

Lupin looked down at his plate, and opened his mouth to speak, but Ted beat him to it.

"Mrs Thomas, I know it's going to be hard to understand, but remember in history class, when you learned about how in Africa people betrayed their own kind to be sold into slavery?" Dean had told him how big of a history but his mum was, and so she smiled sadly and let out a humorless laugh.

"Yes, it was quite horrible, wasn't it? All for gold and guns, too."

This made Andy look away, knowing what was to come, and Dean winced.

"Well, that's what's happening now, except Dean is the one being betrayed, for money and safety, to a man who thinks lowly of Muggles and would kill you as soon as look at you." He looked around at the table and laughed softly. "I think that goes for all of us though, doesn't it?"

I'm going into hiding, yes, but what about Seamus? Will the Dark Lord find him? Will he be killed without so much as a glance?
