POV: Taehyung
"You have a nice house."

Jungkook quietly mumbled from behind me as I turned to face him. Whenever I saw his face, I felt the urge to simply kiss him, but I knew that I couldn't repeat the same mistakes the second time around.

That would be horrendous.

"Thanks," I answered politely. "My step-father really likes this house- he treasures it like it's his own little baby," I laughed.

"What's your step-sister like?" he questioned me, folding a piece of tablecloth neatly.

"She doesn't really talk to me all that much because she's shy, but she's very nice and super smart," I muttered. "Soon, she'll be leaving for university, so it'll just be me and J-Jimin,"

I still shuddered at the thought of his name, the thought of him trying to touch me, just the thought of him made me want to throw up. He was at a friend's house, probably doing some weed together or some fucked up shit like that.

He's fucked up, anyway.

"Ah, I see," he nodded solemnly. "I really wish I had siblings sometimes, but I'm an only child. I have to fend for my mother as well as for myself, because my dad left the picture a long time ago. Suppose I'm used to it by now, but what he did was pretty shitty,"

I frowned. "I hope your mother gets better soon."

"I hope so too. At least you would have enough money to pay for medicine and treatment if anybody in your family got sick."

I looked at my own reflection in the fancy metal spoon that I had just wiped squeaky clean. I could faintly see Jungkook's face in the background.

"You know what," I said. "I'll pay for your mother's medicine. Every last bit of it, okay? I mean, we have so much money anyway, so I'm sure my step-father wouldn't mind, or even notice."

I did everything I could to drown myself in distractions, just so Jungkook wouldn't ask any questions. Life gave me another chance to change things because I had screwed everything up the first time, so I'm not going to let that happen again.

If Jungkook found out just how fucked up my family actually was, our family's reputation would be over, as well as my own life.

I couldn't risk that. No way.
