when you know someone, but not really

12 4 2

By the time you see them, it's too late
You cannot turn and run
Or hide your face
So you charge head first into battle
The wind exposing you
Insecurities laid out on a plate
For them to feast

She calls your name
are we still friends?
You wish you were
But are scared she doesn't
It's been a while
and she says so
You agree and make conversation for a little while
We're impressed

The others' faces are a blur
You only recognise a few
When you turn to go
They call goodbye
and you do too

Carry on walking
Headphones back in
What did you do wrong?

You are barefaced and your skin is bad at the moment
Or maybe it's the odd way you hair ran free in the wind
Or it could be the t-shirt, you knew it was weird
Or maybe they could hear the music blasting through your headphones
Or you had a camel toe, it must be those jeans
Or its the way your heavy boots clomped along the concrete
Or maybe it's just you
They way you spoke, what you said

What did you do wrong?
What did you do wrong?

Pace had quickened
You must get home now
Bag swinging by your side
Matches the lurching of you heart
Tears threaten to spill
Stinging as they fill to the brim
But you stay strong, and force them down
But that doesn't stop the lump in your throat from forming-
Sticking
- and making it difficult to breathe
Difficult to breathe
Difficult to breathe

Breathe

You know it's all lies
You know it's all bullshit
But you can't help listening
To the lies and bullshit I feed you
