Hey guys, I've got some pretty bad news...

Yeah, so I had to take a trip to the emergency room a couple nights ago and I didn't have the time to update, so I'm updating now.

You want to hear the story? Well, I was practicing hurdles for track, and I had set the jump up to 2'6 (that's up to my waist). I ran towards the jump and my right leg was the first to go over, but I have to tuck it so I can clear the hurdle. Anyway, so I had forgotten to tuck my left leg and it knocked the pole (a broom handle) down and I got so distracted by the knocked pole that I forgot to swing my right leg back so I could land correctly and my ankle landed sideways...yeah. It hurt really bad and I could move that foot.

I literally had to crawl to my phone to call mom because I tried yelling but she couldn't hear me from inside the house. After I called her I looked at my ankle and it had already turned purplish/black.

So we went to the ER and they did an x-ray (mom already had an ankle wrap and crutches so I used those to get into the hospital) and they came back, saying it was broken. Here was what my foot looked like before the cast 👇🏼

My ankle just rested this way, and when they came back they said that I had a fractured lateral malleolus

My ankle just rested this way, and when they came back they said that I had a fractured lateral malleolus. Basically, the end of my fibula had broken off. Also it was right next to my growth plate, sooooo yeah. This is probably what the inside of my foot looks like (this isn't my x-ray but mine is probably similar to this one)👇🏼

And there are two ways to fix it. I have to go to an orthopedic doctor tomorrow and they have to take my fiberglass cast off to do another x-ray. Oh, and by the way, I'm pretty sure the nurse put the cast on wrong because your foot it supposed to be straight forward and toes up. My foot is pretty bent in, but I guess it could be worse. And after that, if the bone is still somewhat aligned with the other end of the fibula, then they'll just keep a cast on me, which could take 6 weeks to 6 months 😑

The second option is surgery 😞and what they do is they make an incision and when they have the foot open on the right side, they will install a 10 hole plate along the bone and drill nails into the holes and into the bone so that it will all stay in place. However, even AFTER that I will still have to be in a cast and still on crutches for about 6 weeks to 6 months.

Lovely.

Here's an animation of the surgery 👇🏼

Yeah, and here's a closer look of the x-ray after the surgery 👇🏼

How fun? Alright, well that's about it, and now I'm on crutches and I can't put any weight on my right foot
