Today was the day. I would finally get to start working for the alpha. His secretary to be exact.

Butterflies danced around in my stomach. I took a few deep breaths and tried to calm my nervous jitters. I had put a lot of hard work into getting this job. No way was I about to let my nerves get the best of me and ruin everything for me.

Looking in the mirror I made a few final adjustments. I made sure my curly brown hair stayed in place. However one strand of hair decided it would keep falling. But hey, no ones perfect. I applied mascara to make my grey eyes stand out. No make up besides that, I preferred to not turn myself into a human coloring book. It just wasn't my thing.

A simple maroon blouse, black leggings, and ankle boots made me look casual yet professional. I was so going to get this job.
..........
It didn't take me long to walk from my small house to the Alphas grand estate. The place was more like a stately palace than anything else. It was old fashioned with a modern twist. The white exterior had vines of ivy crawling up them. The scene almost looked surreal against the morning sky.

I walked up towards the door giving a few light knocks. But the door didn't open. I didn't even hear a shuffle from inside. I took a deep breathe and knocked again. This time the doors were thrust open, I had to quickly step back to keep from being hit.

A frantic looking woman looked at me like I was insane. "Go run, get out of here" she screeched. "Ma'am what's wrong" I inquired. What could possibly make her this frantic. Especially something inside of the alphas home. "He's here, he's trying to take over" she cried "just run."

A deep growl from behind us and glowing red eyes sent me fleeing from the estate. Red eyes only meant one thing, an immortal. Immortal wolves were known for being killers. There reputation was worse than that of any rogue.

As I got to town everyone stopped and stared at me wondering why I was running. Shouts of 'what's wrong' and 'is everything alright' coming from the people. I just kept running.

Immortals has heightened senses and if he had been close enough to see me I knew he easily already had my scent. My only hope was that my scent got thrown off through town. I bust through the doors of my home. My sister quickly looked up at me with curious and worried eyes. Unlike mine here eyes were a light caramel brown.

"Kris" she asked worried "what's wrong?"
"There was an immortal at the Alphas estate", I gasped "I think he was trying to take over."

"He didn't see you did he" she asked, keeping her voice calm. I looked up at her and bit my lip. "Oh no" she cried "this is bad, very very bad." Seeing my little sister worried sent my big sister instinct into action. I pulled her into a hug "it's gonna be alright, I'm pretty sure he wasn't after me, even if he was I would've lost him when I ran through town" I calmly said. She nodded looking convinced. I wished I had been able to convince myself with what I just said. But I knew that none of it was true.

"Your right" she sighed, still sounding like she was still trying to convince herself. "How about I make us some hot chocolate and we can watch a movie, whatever you want. She smiled and nodded, her brown curls like mine counting with her movement. I smiled and set to work making a good lunch.

I went to the cabinet to look for the stuff to make hot chocolate with. With a small thump something fell to the floor. It was an old aged envelope. I opened it and found an old picture inside.

My moms grey eyes and my dads caramel brown ones stared back at me, along with my brothers hazel eyes. I remember when this picture was taken. It was eight years ago. My sister was seven and I was thirteen then. Now I was twenty one, she was fifteen. My eyes watered as I looked at the picture and I shoved it back into the envelope and put it back into the cabinet.

After making the hot chocolate I topped it off with some whipped cream, marshmallows, and cinnamon on top. I grabbed some snicker doodle cookies and carried it all to the couch where my sister had made a nest of blankets. She had in a love story me and her had watched countless times every fall. It was our own little tradition. "Where did you get the snicker doodles" she chided, knowing I had a secret stash. I just rolled my eyes and smiled.

"Are you nervous" she asked, taking a sip of her hot chocolate. "About what?"

She rolled her eyes "your preforming at the gathering tonight remember" she reminded me. I had completely forgotten about that. "Oh yeah."

"Your forgot" she smirked. "Yep" I said popping the p. Me and her watched the movie and let our fear from earlier melt away. Everything would be alright. At least that's what I had thought.
.................
Me and my friends, Jordan, Kaden, and Kylie stood on the small wooden stage of a local bar and grill. The place had always been quite popular and just about the whole pack would come here every Sunday night to see the performances.

I was the singer, Kylie was background vocals, Jordan played drums, and Kaden played the guitar.

People started whistling as soon as the boys started playing. Everyone seemed to love watching us preform. I took a deep breathe and began to sing.

"Wanna know who burned you so bad
Left your heart in ashes on the ground
Made you promises, took em right back
Left you cold and alone, know all you know is the sound

Of goodbye
You won't let anyone inside

Baby, you're just like smoke, blowing on the wind, one minute your by my side, and then you're gonna again
You night be bad for me but I just wanna breathe you in
Every time I reach out, I find there ain't nothing to hold
Boy, you're just like smoke

We can start out slow like an ember
Get the fire burning back behind your eyes
I wanna feel you when we're together
So, whatever you do, baby, don't disappear

This time
Don't fade into the grey tonight

Baby, your just like smoke, blowing on the wind, one minute your by my side then your gone again
You might be bad for me but I just wanna breathe you in
Every time I reach out, I find there's nothing to hold, boy you're just like smoke

Smoke
Smoke
Yeah"

The song ended earlier when a low deep growl ripped through the crowd. I quickly looked around to find my sister and run over to her. The crowd begins to stampede leaving me with no clue who, what or even where the danger is.

Then I spot him, up on stage, the giant black, red eyed wolf from earlier. Then he turns and looks directly at me. I don't have the courage to look away, feeling like as soon as I do he might unfreeze.

I push my sister, she takes the signal and runs. The wolf has seemed to forget about everyone else as we stare at each other. Watching each other occasionally blink. Soon the wolf seems to remember he was trying to attack and looks up only to find everyone has fled. I bought them time.

While he's distracted I take it as my own cue to flee. However he quickly looks at me and lunges pinning me to the ground. I hit my head hard against the hard floor. My last thought was I hoped my sister was safe. Then the darkness took over.
