THERE WAS A TIME

4 2 2

There was a time when I could boast

Of doing things that others most, often

Did not want to do

As conflict makes a life, askew

But I hate pain

Although in truth

It's now an old friend

Come home to roost

Now, I'm old

I perhaps don't care

What others think

Why other stair

I can no-longer shout it out

What is the point

Why scream and pout

I've learned a lesson

I've learned it bad

Damn I hate it when, it's sad

When none will listen

To wisdom's bell

When none will hear

When none will tell

My mouth it works

But silence reigns

I don't want to suffer

That pain again

Of being shunned

Of being ignored

Of standing by myself

Loved no more

So tell me why

Tell me true

Would YOU listen

What would YOU do

If this was  your burden's call

To speak the truth

To one and all

Knowing the price of that fair call?
