Although they only live twelve months, they ensure the life of an entire ecosystem, travel great distances North or South, give birth, and die. Butterflies are natural pollinators since they are, they venture to thousands of flowers. Inadvertently, they pollinate flowers when they "steal" things from other flowers. While they have to compete with bees, they can go a great distance than bees. After the season is through, they either move towards the equator in the fall and toward the poles in the spring. Once there, unless they don't make it, they attach to trees and die after they give birth to the next generation. If they prevail through everything, it starts all over again.
