I have also introduced my friend weirdogal02 to the opera vers of it and some of you might not know but both Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn (creators of Gorillaz) were apart of the opera so that's why the style looks familiar.
Jamie designed the characters and settings while Damon made the music for the opera, Jamie even had the privilege to animate Journey to the West for the Beijing Olympics in 2008, it's pretty awesome if you think about it.
