chapter 23

i kept her in my arms for the last few minutes,remembering all the memories we had together,meeting each other,our childhood together,all these memories made me think how her not being around me was not right at all,it was a strange sensation

i gaze at mari one more time,she was just on my arms lifeless,cold and pale
i glance at mom and dad

"she's okay,don't worry,now,we'll be home,we'll give you some time alone"dad said i nod

"ahhhhhh !"i look back at mari and see her wide awake,she's alive

"mari,hey"i say hugging her

her iris turned from blue to red

she's a vampire

this is amazing,she's back,i don't really mind her being like me,it's more about what she thinks about this

she looks horrified,she starts trembling"what happened to me? i feel strange"

"it's normal,because..."

"because what adrien ?"

"you've become a vampire"i admitted

"what ? no,i can't be a vampire,i don't want to be one"she said standing up"how ?"she faces me

"well,you died from a poison and i had to turn you"

"and this is the only option you had ,huh ? why did you do this to me ?"she argues

"yes,actually it was,i had no other choice because i didn't want you to die,okay !"i pause,taking a deep breath"i just couldn't imagine my life without you"

"let me go,then"she aggressively admits

"what ? no what are you talking about ? it's just that your feelings are heightened that you don't know what you're saying"

no she can't be thinking of breaking up,is she ? she can't,i didn't want any of this to happen,at least not like this

"you always tell me about you not imagining your life without me,well,guess what ? I'll be giving you the chance to do that,live your life without me"she runs out of the front door and i follow her to the front gate

"mari,no,you can't..please"i grab her by her wrist

"can't you see,adrien,it's over,just forget it,plus i didn't want any of this,did i ?"

i stay silent

"no,because you knew,when we were kids you once asked me if i ever wanted to be a vampire,i answered no because i wanted to stay human,i wanted to stay the way i am and die the same way,however now it's different,you took my humanity from me"she says as she shakes off my grip,her expression changing from pissed to sad

"I'm sorry,mari,i just had to...please understand"i hugged her,i pulled up and softly said"let's go home,we'll sort it out,please"

she nods

we went back home,my parents welcomed her back

"dad,mom,can i have a moment with you ? it's important"

"sure,let's go upstairs"dad says heading upstairs while mom and i follow him

"the other day,i went to grandma's house to pick up my ring,although,something felt different,so when i checked the house,i found this"i handed them the paper,they look at it confused

"at first,i didn't know what it really meant,until i saw this"i flipped the paper

"that's impossible,it can't possibly mean--"

"yes,it is the king is planning to take over both cities,that's why,grandpa and her weren't home,they're probably out there trying to find out about this new thing going on"

"we should go look for them,we have to know what happened to them"dad said glancing at mom then back to me

"I'll go with you"

"no,you can't adrien,you'regoing to look after marinette until we get back"mom says

i go downstairs and my parents leave the house,it was just the two of us sitting in the living-room

"thirsty ?"i ask

"yes,very"

i go to the kitchen and get a blood bag,and hand it to her

"drink,you need it,trust me"

"thanks"she takes it and takes a few sips

"it tastes--"

"delecious,i know"

she kept drinking until it was left dry

seeing her back made me feel relaxed,however,what she said earlier was true,maybe i don't deserve her,maybe i exaggerated my feelings for her,it's going to be tough?regardless,I'll do anything for her is worth it,anything to make her forget the pain i did for her

i sit besides her,and gently hold her head and look straight through her eyes

"what are you doing ?"she asks confused

"just stay still for a minute"i take a deep breath,holding back my feelings

"i hate to do this but i have to do it,for your sake"

"what are you talking about ? what do you mean for my sake ?"she questions

"you,marinette are going to forget everything about me,adrien adler,just one thing in particular will remain in your memory,I'm your best friend and you have no feelings for me"i say trying to stay as strong as possible

i let go,she stares at me for a few seconds until she gets back to normal,blinking,she glances at me and says"i feel tired,I'm going to sleep"she stands up and goes to the guest's room

i did the right thing,it was best if she doesn't get much more involved in this than she already is

"hello brother"i turn around to see
