The trap was set, and when I was caught,
I laughed all the way down.
Wings spread but not yet ready,
I leaned into the wind but it was you.

Like the dawning of a new day on a flat land,
you left me uncovered, naked and vulnerable,
alone licking my wounds, tending to them.
But I am unashamed.

For like the new day, I too will dawn
with wings, unfurling, finally free.
