Feeling the feedback of breaking bone, I look at my assailant... or whatever was left of it. With a swing of my arm, the blood flies off as if it were water.
Sighing again, I thought of her. Charlotte Mallory, my wife. Back in my old world, I treasured her dearly, as if she herself was worth more than all the souls of humanity and more than any number of planets made of diamond. She was my world and my life.
And then she died, which is why I had killed myself.
But in this new world, there is a chance I will see her again...
