I made a sort of choking sound and Sarah stared wide-eyed at me. "Girlfriend? Mia, I thought you were straight."
"Oh. You're not together? Sorry, I just assumed. Mia has a pretty gay vibe."
My jaw was on the floor.
"Mia, what the hell? Have you been lying to me?"
"Okay, I really messed up, didn't I?"
"Mia. I need answers."
"Uhhhh...." I could do two things right now- tell her I'm in love with her and lose my best friend or not say anything and lose my best friend.
I think I'll go with the latter.
Sarah stands, anger on her face. "You've been lying to me. I've even straight up asked you if you were gay!"
"Hey now, I'm sure I'm wrong..." Olivia said quietly, looking around as the number of people staring at us grows.
"I'm so sick of you!" Sarah exclaims. "You follow me around like a lost puppy constantly, always needing attention and comfort and you don't even have the decency to be honest? God, get over yourself."
I stand, too. I want to tell her, no, you're wrong, I will always comfort you, because I love you and you don't think I'm annoying because you love me. You love me. She loves me.
