Error opened his eyes to be greeted with nothing but darkness. There was nothing and no one around him. Only the dark.
He was both scared and confused, remembering this same place from the last time he passed out. Flashes of the past were appearing in his mind, the demon that haunted anyone flashing through his mind. Error began to hyperventilate as he clutched his chest, his breathing coming out in heavy pants. He tried to control himself, but calming down wasn't easy anymore.
"Calm down Error.....It's not real, this isn't real....i-its just a-"
"A nightmare? Gosh, aren't you smart."
A slight gasp could be heard from Error as he frantically began to look around, trying to find the body that the voice belonged to. It sounded so distant yet so close at the same time. Due to his panic, he couldn't match the voice to anyone at the moment. He knew it wasn't a voice in his head, there was something here with him, or more like someone. When his eyes settled on a figure that appeared only a few feet in front of him, he balled his hand into a tight fist, going from panic to complete anger. His voice turned cold and brutal when he spoke.
"What do you want now Nightmare? Haven't you bothered me enough?"
A wide, goopy grin showed on the monsters face, his tentacles moving like serpents ready to strike.
"Now now, don't start an attitude with me. I actually came here to give something back to you."
His mismatched eyes narrowed in confusion, but he kept his guard up. Something about this didn't feel right.
"Unless you know some way to bring Ink back, then there's nothing you can give me."
A very exaggerated sigh left Nightmares mouth as he rubbed the temple of his one good eye while shaking his head disappointingly. The tentacles on his back were moving faster now, as if they would pierce him at any moment.
"See, there's your problem Error. You've let one, measly, useless, poor excuse of a Sans control how you think, how you feel. You're not the Error I once knew, the one that was better than this, smarter than this, stronger than this. But now you're blind, idiotic, and completely WEAK! It used to be so much simpler back then, you remember..."
A black tendril shot right at his feet, piercing the black ground and cracking it. He jumped back in shock and watched as something began to emerge from the damaged floor. It was a small black orb, surrounded by a dark aura as it rose in the air, right in front of Error. He didn't know how to respond to this, his eyes moving from the orb to Nightmare in a slight panic. Was this a new weapon?
"Take it in your hands, and crush it. Watch what happens. It will be worth your while."
Error was baffled at what Nightmare said to him.Did he really think he was dumb enough to fall for this? This could be a total trap! He couldn't even argue about it before Nightmare gave off a low growl of frustration.
"Fine, I'll do it then"
Nightmare sent one of his tentacles straight through the orb causing Error to raise his arms in front of himself and shut his eyes tight, preparing himself for some kind of reaction or attack to be made.
..........................
......What? No pain? What happened?......
Error cautiously opened his eyes and lowered his arms to see what happened, but gasped at the sight, or more like sights he saw.
Multiple portals covered the black emptiness above them, different shapes and sizes scattered all around them. They all looked like windows, showing movies or films of some sort. Upon closer inspection, Error realized that these weren't just videos, they were memories. Memories of the past, his past.
Those days when he was just a killer, a glitch, a real monster. He caught a glimpse of his past self in one of the memories, and what he saw made him shiver. Monsters of all types were dangling in the air by his deadly blue strings, begging, pleading for him to spare their lives, crying out for MERCY, and all he did was give them a cold laugh and an empty smile. His beady eyes looked into all of their souls, and with the slightest move of his hand, all of the monsters were no more.
He remembered that day....the name of the AU he had long forgotten, but the one thing he could never get out of his mind was the pain and agony of others that kept a heavy weight on his soul.
Nightmare appeared next to him with a wide smile on his face and a cold hand on his shoulder, causing Error to freeze in place.
"Look at this Error, look at who you used to be. This was the Better you, the Stronger you. And it can be like this again, you can be strong again!"
Error looked at Nightmare with a new found horror. He knew what Nightmare said was a lie. What he did in the past, that was not the kind of strength he wanted to feel. It was awful! But....He couldn't stop....His own body and mind had betrayed what his soul felt, so therefore his sinful deeds continued. For the longest time, he had been a man blind to his own actions. Errors eyes darted to every image in every portal, his breathing getting heavier with anxiety. He found no memory to be a good or pleasant one,he was only greeted with the same terrible sight.
The fear of monsters both young and old, the sounds of shattered souls and broken cries for help echoed around him, consuming him in guilt. All of these memories were nothing but nightmares to him now, and Nightmare himself knew that. Error couldn't take much more, he felt as if what was left of his sanity had already gone.
Slapping his hands where his ears should be, he fell to his knees and shut his eyes, wanting to close out all the memories of pain around him. The glitches on his body got worse as did his voice.
"S-S-TOp T-ThIS!! N-NO m-M-M-oRE!! Pl-E-E-e-aSE!!!"
The screams only got louder around him, swallowing him whole. Nightmare did nothing but stare in disappointment at Error. His cold blue eye showed anger and frustration at the other. There was no point in doing this anymore. Taking a few steps closer to him, Nightmare summoned the sharpest bones he could, all pointing straight at Error.
"What a shame.....I was hoping you could join our side on this....We're winning this war Error, and if we had you, it would all be over. But I was wrong....you're nothing but a broken soul now, a true glitch in a system you no longer belong in."
Error made no move whatsoever to get away from Nightmares attack. He couldn't feel his legs, his hands were cold, mind clouded, and soul empty. The small amount of determination he once had was gone.
"Goodbye Error, may both you and that Creator burn in Hell."
Bones were sent at him in all directions, he had only seconds to live now. He didn't cry for help, he didn't even cry at all. No tears went down his face and no fear could be seen. Error only closed his eyes and accepted his long overdue fate. Only a few words escaped his lips, barley above a whisper, for only him to hear.
"i'll see you soon, my Ink...."
