LECTURE #18: PIG LATIN

Pig Latin is a language game in which words in English are altered. The objective of this language game is to conceal the words from others not familiar with the rules. The reference to Latin is a deliberate misnomer, as it is simply a form of jargon, used only for its English connotations as a strange and foreign-sounding language.

So, how to use Pig Latin? What are the rules?

For words that begin with a single consonant, take the consonant off the front of the word and add it to the end of the word. Then add -AY after the consonant.

PIG = IGPAY
CAT = ATCAY
DOG = OGDAY
CUTE= UTECAY

For words that begin with double consonants, take both letters and take them to the end and then add - AY.

SHINE = INESHAY
SHADOW = ADOWSHAY
SMILE=ILESMAY
THE=ETHAY

For words that begin with a vowel, just add -WAY to end.

AT = ATWAY
IS = ISWAY
A=AWAY
