The days between Monday and Friday had gone by slowly. Garcia had kept the interns late almost every night and Kayla had hardly seen Jack all week. Luckily she would be on call this weekend, which would give her a chance to go with Jack to his AA meeting tomorrow.

"Earth to Kayla," Cynthia said, waving her hand in front of Kayla's face. "Are you okay? You've been distracted all week."

The two were standing by a vacant nurses station. They'd been mid-conversation; Cynthia had been recalling the details of the coronary artery bypass graft she'd scrubbed in on last weekend, cherishing the memory. Kayla realized she must have zoned out.

"Yeah... I'm okay. Just ready for the weekend," she said, snapping back to reality. If she was being honest with herself she'd been more than distracted since Monday night. Distracted would have been an understatement. Not worrying about Jack and focusing on work was proving to be much harder than Jim had made it seem. There wasn't a moment that passed where Jack didn't occupy her mind.

"Wanna come in early with me tomorrow morning and troll for surgeries?" Cynthia asked.

Kayla shook her head. "Hell no. On call means on call. Which means I will not be at this hospital unless I'm paged to be here."

"You sure? Last weekend when I was here early was when I got to scrub in on that open heart I was telling you about."

"As tempting as that sounds... it's been a rough week. I'll take any time off that I can get."

"Lame... No rest for the weary, Kayla. You might as well just hand me the Chief Resident spot."

"No way. That spot is mine. There will be plenty of other opportunities to show you up... and I trust me I will take full advantage of all of them," she smirked. "But this weekend I really need the time off."

"Okay... Have it your way," Cynthia shrugged, grabbing a few syringes and alcohol wipes from the top shelf in the supply cabinet.

"Have you given any more thought to reporting what happened?" Kayla asked, lowering her voice. She hadn't wanted to press the issue but the thought of Cooper getting away with what he'd done just wasn't sitting right with her.

Cynthia looked around, making sure no one else was in earshot. "Part of me wants to. I can't even walk around the hospital without fearing that I'll run into him any time I turn a corner. But I'm scared if I tell it will backfire on me. And I worked too hard to let him take this all away from me."

"I can go with you. I can tell them what I saw."

"I dunno..."

"Well just at least think about it, okay? Let me know."

Cynthia nodded and gave a half smile before walking off.

"You and Cynthia have been awfully chummy lately," said a high-pitched voice from behind Kayla, startling her slightly. She turned to see Hannah crossing her arms. She looked almost child-like with her hair tied in a high ponytail with a hot pink scrunchie and a pout on her face. Not much unlike a toddler about to throw a temper tantrum.

"Yeah she's actually not too bad when you get to know her."

Hannah made a face. "I doubt that," she grimaced.
