I tried to refrain myself from adding songs left and right to this book like I did with 3005 but this song really relates to the first half of the chapter (+ if you've been here since my R5 stan days you are a real G) [the song is Let's Not Be Alone by R5])

"So, Jack," Jeongguk began, setting his glass on top of the bar. "whereabouts are you from, to have such name? Do you have a foreign parent or something?"

"Yeah, you could say that. My Mother's from overseas." I fibbed smoothly, and given by the nods he gave me, the lie had settled well with him. I took a deep breath. "And you, Jeongguk? Where are you from?"

"I was born in Busan, but parents moved," he edged closer, but still yelled above all the voices surrounding us. "they- should we go outside."

A part of me didn't want to go outside, especially if it meant him stood so close I could see every speck of hazel in his large, brown irises. Inevitably, I nodded, allowing his hand to take mine & lead me through the crowd and up the stairs. The two of us perched on some of the steps outside of the 'store', close enough that our knees bumped with each shiver.

"What were you saying?" I asked again.

"Oh yes," his words were slurred ever so slightly. "they moved up when I was about 6 or 7 and died when I was around 14 because the fucking King found out that my Mom was a Fire Bender and my Dad a Dew."

My breathing hitched, and my my mind came free of thought.
Because of my Dad, he's an orphan.

"I'm so sorry-"

"I won't lie to you and say that it's okay and I'm over it, because I'm not. But I'm less angry now, just sad that I didn't get as much time with them as everybody else you know, and that the King and his children can prance around knowing Mommy and Daddy have their backs when nobody really has mine."

"You'd be in for a shock," his eyes flicked to me. I tensed. "I-I mean, not that I know. It might just be that their parents aren't as supportive as they seem. The King especially."

"I wouldn't put killing his family past him, so probably."

I knew his words were clearly out of anger, but a part of me burned with a dull ache. The fact that my Father came off as that type of person at all, hurt a lot, but the fact that I agreed with him hurt more than everything.

"What do you do, Jack?" He suddenly asked.

"Oh, me? I'm a Root, aspiring police officer," I smiled, feeling more dizzy with each lie. "And you?"

"I'm a Dew, so I'm a train conductor." He shyly explained.

"Oh that's so cool. Do you operate on the line over the river? It's so nice."
