Jeon Jeongguk
Morning came around faster than I hoped it would, the first rays of sunshine beaming through the burgundy curtains, giving the bedroom a relaxing red hue. I slept on my back, one arm secured around Taehyung who used my chest as a pillow. Apart from that, he kept to himself, minus the leg hooked around my calf.
I woke up far before him, and for a while, laid staring at how soft, delicate features and how calm he looked in his sleep, even if his clothes were bunched weirdly at places, and his hair pointed in every direction. It was endearing, to say the least. Not long after, I had to skip out of his grip, reaching for my own clothes. The memories of the last day flew back to me, and it felt like a heavy weight had been set on my chest as I slid into the clothes I had worn. I returned to Taehyung's side, leaving a kiss on his temple which made him stir but not enough to wake him, and then I had to make my exit, before people began to wake up and question exactly why the same person who saved the Prince's life twice is now sleeping in his room.
Although I wouldn't blame them if they didn't want to wake up. The atmosphere in the castle was gloomy and cold, as casualties were counted and the King's body was prepared for its final goodbye. As I passed the large windows, I noticed growing amounts of flowers and candles gather by the north gate, mourning civilians stopping by to pay their respects.
The news were broadcasted last night at the Queen's command, she who was nowhere to be found, even when the rest of us gathered at the canteen for breakfast like usual.I sat beside a silent Taeyong, and an even quieter Akira. She no longer cried, the sadness in her eyes replaced by a dull, red glimmer of wrath and he was still slightly in shock, his eyes still bloodshot. Opposite us sat Yoongi, neutral, and Jimin, prodding at his food.
"Will you join the squad?" I asked, Akira and Taeyong looking to me and then slowly to Yoongi, who never looked up from his food. Jimin craned his head too after moments of silence.
"A lot is up for debate, Jeongguk. You aren't the first to ask." Was all he said.
The doors suddenly swinging open caused Taeyong to flinch and drop his chopsticks, clinking against the metal tray into an absolute, looming silence.
General Hoseok and General Namjoon entered, accompanied by two guards and two unfamiliar faces. "Good morning everybody," General Namjoon was first to speak. "despite it being a tough night, we hope you were all able to rest. In light of recent events, the first day of Elite training will be cancelled, set to start tomorrow by 9AM. The Queen wishes you to take the day to venture out and visit family members and reassure them of how you are, whilst the castle deals with affairs regarding last night's treacherous events, and of course, the send-off to King Woobin."
