"What are you doing here? You should be in bed," I said. She shook my head no.
"I want to help," she stated and went over to the table where Scott and I were previously at. Scott looked at me, I gave a small nod of approval. She grabbed a pencil Scott was about to protest, but I glared at him. She change the plans a little.
"You had some of the houses to cramped and had a four block center. I just changed them a little," She said handing them back to Scott. He nodded then walked away to start the building process on Shelby's and my house.
"I think you just shocked Scoot. Good job Shub's," I said before walking off. She looked a little shocked that I used her nickname from our childhood. I went over to see how the building was coming along. They seemed fine, until I herd Will. I shook it off and went back to my tent to leave Shelby a note. I left with my mining gear.
I went to our mines and went down. I love caving, it clears my head.
I think I was down there for about 10 hours. I got plenty of iron, gold, redstone, some lapis, and I got almost 50 diamonds. I went back to the surface and smelled the fresh air. I went over to some of our crates and put the items in there, except 10, I was going to make her a crown with diamonds, iron, and a bit of gold as small flowers.
I got back to my tent and shelby was passed out on the ground. I picked her up and tucked her in. I started to develop feeling for her about six years ago. I've only told Scott. He looked kinda happy when I told him. In the morning I was going to travel to a city, about three days away, to get the crown done. I would be gone for about two weeks so I was going to leave Shelby in charge, Scott would help her with anything she needed.
"Shelby, Time to get up. I have to tell you something," I said shaking her. She just rolled over. I sighed and pulled her blankets off she jumped at the sudden cold air and glared at me.
"LIAM! Are you crazy? The sun isn't even up. Let me go back to bed," she said with her natural high voice. I sighed and went to exit the tent, but Scott was coming to me.
"Scott just the person I was looking for. I'm leaving the camp for about two weeks. I'm leaving Shelby in charge. You are going to help her," I said and that got Shelby's attention.
"WHAT! YOU'RE LEAVING?!" She jumped out of bed. I ran over and caught her. She looked at me almost in tears.
"Shelby, I'm only going to be away for two weeks. In that time you can concentrate on building. Scott is going to help you," I said setting her on her bed. Then she burst into tears. I hugged her and told her I had to go. I think she fell back asleep because the sun wasn't even up yet.
"Scott, I know you want to argue with me, so don't. I'm going to the city to have a crown made for Shelby," I said walking over to the makeshift stables to grab my horse. Scott looked sad, but didn't say anything.
"Liam, I know you love her, but she's not ready to lead yet. What if something happens to you?" Scott asked handing me my reins. I gave him a small smile, and I was off.
I was quite happy to have some free time to think of how things would go when I got back to the camp, and what would've changed. I just stopped thinking about it and continued on.
"Sir, do you happen to have some food? Or some money? I'm starving," a beggar asked when I was about a day away from the town. I looked in my bag and I only had three pieces of meat and one slice of bread. I gave him all of it and continued. The beggar looked shocked that someone gave him food.
"Thank you good Sir. Notch bless you on your journeys," he said as I was walking away. I smiled to myself and continued.
I reached the outside of the city at nightfall. I was about to set up a camp for the night, until I saw an elder woman pushed out of town. I ran over to help her. She looked scared. She didn't say anything, until I handed her a small cup of water.
"Thank you. Why are you helping me?" She asked looking a little worried. I gave a small chuckle and replied.
"You needed it," was all I said. She still wasn't convinced, "I'm a leader of a small camp about three day's ride away, and I help anyone if they need help."
"How do I repay you? I have no money, I have nothing," she said worried that I would kick her out if she didn't have anything. I shook my head no.
"I don't need anything. I just help people who need it. Here have some gold to help you get back on your feet," I said handing her 20 gold. She looked unsure and slowly reached for it. When she finally took it I gave her a small smile, and she smiled back.
When I woke up in the morning the woman had left. I sighed and went into the city. I asked around for a blacksmith, or a jewelry maker. They told me of a place in the inner part of the city. I started walking there with Bird behind me.I got to the outer wall of the inner city and saw a gate with two guards posted there.
"Sir you can't enter the inner city," one said before I walked in. I stopped and started back. Oh well. Guess I can't get Shelby her crown.
"Sir, why have you come? You're not from here are you?" the second one asked. I turned.
"I came to get a crown made for my girlfriend," I said. They looked at each other then back at me.
"Sir. You can stay at the inn tonight and come back tomorrow morning. I will ask the Captain and tell you tomorrow," the first one said. I nodded.
"Oli, let H in. He is always welcomed here," I again stopped. I know that voice.
"Calum? Is that really you? Man it's been forever," I said hugging him. He hugged back and invited me in.
"Calum, dude, how've you been?" I asked as he led me through the maze.
"I'm a Captain in a city. So pretty well I guess," he said almost like he was shy about saying that. Then laughed continuing, "enough about me. How've you been? Did you say you have a girlfriend? Wow never thought I would see the day."
"No I said girl- friend. A friend who just so happens to be a girl. It's Shelby," he looked a bit shocked.
"I thought you would've asked her out by now. So if you're not dating why are you making her a crown?" he went straight to the point.
"I like her," I said quietly. He stopped in his tracks with his mouth in an 'O' shape.
"YES! FINALLY!" he said shouting pumping his fist in the air. He was acting like a child.
"You're acting like a child Calum. Can you take me to the blacksmith?" I asked he nodded, still getting out of his shocked state. He nodded and we continued walking through the maze of streets.
"Here you go H. If you need anything else come find me," He said walking away with some of the guards that came to get because of a commotion. I walked into the blacksmith and went to the only person in the store.
"Hi, I'm looking for the blacksmith. Do you know where they might be?" I asked. The woman looked at me with a strange look.
"I'm the blacksmith. Now how may I help you Sir..." she asked waiting for my name.
"H. I was wondering if you could make me a crown for my friend," I said with all the confidence I could muster at the time.
"Does this 'friend' have a name?" she asked looking for a pattern, I think.
"Ummm, her name is Shelby. I already have a pattern in mind if you don't mind," I said thinking for a minute. She sounded a lot like shelby. So it threw me off a little.
"Oh? What is it?" she asked sounding unamused.
"Yeah I would like a diamond in the center. The band made of iron and some gold flowers around it," I said. I've been thinking about this for a while so I knew what I wanted.
"That actually sounds good. Most people who ask for custom designs don't know what they are talking about. It might take me a month to gather all the materials and work on it," she said writing down my design.
"I have all the materials. Also some extra to pay for it and just to have extra if you need it," I said handing her a bag with all the items. I kept 5 diamonds, and a bit of gold to pay for food a place to stay.
"Wow! Who are you? How do you have this much materials?" she asked looking in the bag.
"I lead a camp about three day ride away from here. So I have a lot of raw materials," I said as I started walking out of the shop.
"Sir, this will be ready in about three or four days. This saves me so much time," She said that last part in a quieter voice but I still heard it. I walked around the town for a bit, until I saw a inn I could stay at.
"H, you've outdone yourself this time. I think you shocked our blacksmith with all the materials already at hand. I also heard you moved closer to the mountains and away from the plains. How are you adjusting to the difference?" Calum asked. I shrugged and yawned.
"Nice catching up with you Calum but I'm gonna get a room at the inn. See you in the morning," I said and started for the inn. Calum said night ten walked off to somewhere.
"Good evening Sir. How may I help you tonight?" a man said as soon as I entered the door. I told him I needed a room for the next week. He said it would be 15 gold, I didn't have that much gold on me, so I gave him a diamond. He looked it over then led me to a really nice room. I told him that wasn't necessary.
"Good night Sir. Would you like a wake up call, or breakfast, or anything?" I shook my head no then I went to bed.
I woke up before the sun was up yet, yet there was already commotion out on the streets. No one else seemed to be up so I went to check it out. It was an older woman and a child no more than six years old.
"Ma'ma, may I help in anyway?" I asked walking over to the area where the commotion was coming from.
"This does not concern you b*tch. Now get away before I call the guards on you," the woman screamed at me. The girl looked all bloody and bruised.
"If you don't mind I'm going to help out this child. If you want call the guards. Heck even call the Captain of the guards. I'm helping this girl," I said walking over to the little girl. She cowered away from me.
"I'm not going to hurt you. Are you hungry? If you want we can go get some food," I said calmly kneeling next to her. She gave a small nod. I was going to pick her up but I heard a voice.
"Sir, we have reports that you were beating a child. You'll have to come with me," I sighed.
"I'll be right back. Just stay with the guards. No one's going to hurt you anymore. Ok?" she gave a small nod. I stood up and turned around. I was about to start walking with the guard but the little girl grabbed onto my leg and refused to let go. I looked at the guard he looked disgusted.
"Sir you have to let go of the child," the guard said walking over to me. I tried to get the girl off my leg, she was surprisingly very strong.
"I can't," I said after trying to get her off.
"Sir if you don't let go of her you'll be arrested," the guard said.
"Could you bring your Captain over. I need to talk to him," I said bending down to help the child. The guard rushed off to somewhere.
"Honey, you need to let go of my leg. I don't want you getting hurt anymore," I said and she hugged my leg tighter. I sighed and bent down to pick her up. I held her in my arms. After a minute she fell asleep in my arms.
"Sir you have to pu... H what are you doing. Why were you beating a child?" Calum asked as soon as he saw me. I put a finger to my lips and pointed to the girl. He nodded understanding.
"I wasn't. I woke up rather early, even for me, and heard commotion out on the streets and came to check it out. I saw a woman yelling at this child and she said some very inappropriate words at the child. I said I wanted to help she then called me a b*tch. I told her to call the guards but I was going to help this child. She then walked away," I said swinging back and forth slowly.
"Well, we were told differently. We'll have to ask little Jess when she wakes up, but you'll have to come with us until then," Calum said trying to take Jess from me. She just held on tighter. Calum looked at me and I just shrugged and followed him.
We finally got to a big building just as Jess was starting to wake up.
"Hello Jess. Can you answer some questions?" Calum asked Jess with a quiet voice. She gave a small nod and snuggled closer to me.
"Ok, but you're going to have to let go of H," Jess just shook her head no. Calum looked at me and I didn't know what to do so I just went with her.
"Jess did this man hit you?" Calum asked. Jess shook her head no.
"Calum, before we continue I think Jess needs food and water," I said after she answered. He nodded and left to get her some food.
"Jess. If you don't want to get hurt anymore, you're going to have let me go. They need to question you without me. Could you do that?" I asked quietly rubbing her back. She nodded and let go of me slightly, until the door opened and she jumped back into my arms hiding in my chest.
"Jess, it's only Calum. He won't hurt you. He just went to get you some food and water," I said as she pulled away from my chest. She looked at me and then back at her food.
