There's a huge time skip from the time of Brittney's Bonus chapter to this one. Matt and Charlie are married, and are age 32 with three kids.
Mattie's POV
I walked down the hall to get to the ice rink. It wasn't the easiest thing to do anymore. Carrying a kid, a bag and making sure my other kid doesn't get lost or anything, it certainly is different from when I was a teenager. Being a kid I only needed to make sure I had my hockey bag, and now I need to make sure I have three boys and everything else to make sure that they're occupied during a hockey game.
After coming back from the washroom, for the fourth time, and the game was soon ending, Michael headed up the stairs and found a seat on the bench. The arena was pretty much empty, other than parents and kids of the hockey players from both teams. I grew up on the ice, so did my husband, and now our kids are going to experience it too. If they don't like it, then they don't have to continue on the ice and can do something else.
I took my seat and set Jeremy on the bench next to me. Michael had decided to run up and down the steps and between the rows of benches while his dad was Coaching his brother's hockey team. Charlie and I have three sons. A ten year old, a six year old, and a five year old. Charlie became a Coach because he wanted to continue with hockey but didn't want to leave the boys and I while he left for hockey. So, aside from his everyday job, he coaches Pee Wee hockey and last year and this year, he's had Caleb on his team.
Caleb is our eldest son. He's got Charlie's looks. He's a spitting image of his father. I find it crazy how much they look a like. People always ask if they're brothers when they see their pictures on the walls at our house, but we say they're father and son. Caleb's exceptional in hockey. I want to say he had gotten my talent, since at his age I was just as good as he was while Charlie could barely skate, until my father came around. Caleb's not Captain or anything. Charlie isn't favoring Caleb, nor Austin, Ethan, William, Emma, Cody, and Grace.
Cody is Brittney's boy and he's almost nine years old. I can't remember why he was in the Pee Wee league. But man, he was a really good player. He was a spitting image of Adam and since both Cody's parents were amazingly talented in hockey, is was just as good. Caleb isn't too far behind either. And he's got a sister named Dillon, she's seven.
Grace is Connie and Guy's daughter, she's nine years old. Emma and Ethan are Averman's kids, and they've got light red hair. Their mother has blonde hair while Averman's got red. Austin is Fulton's boy and he's a defensemen, and we can tell. And then William is Julie and Scooter's boy, she also has two girls, Braelynn and Abbie.
"Jeremy! Don't lick that!" I called and ran down the steps before he licked the metal posts that was a structure for the ice rink.
"Nice kid, ya got, Matt," Adam called. Walking in Dillon since he had went to go get her a drink or something. Brittney was seated next to Connie and I. Connie and Guy were seated with Averman, Fulton and I. While Julie was down by the bench checking her son because he had taken a nasty hit. Scooter was next to Averman and his wife. Averman and Fulton's wives were the odd ones out, they weren't apart of the Ducks, and nor was Scooter, but we knew him long before their wives.
I picked up Jeremy and walked back up the steps to the bench where the others were. We always sat together at games and talked and cheered on our kids. None of us had ever thought that we'd be here today doing this. I certainly didn't think I'd be sitting here with three sons because after Junior year, it didn't look like Charlie and I were ever going to be here.
Charlie had cheated on me with some girl, a cheerleader, when I was at hockey and he had missed that practice. None of us knew where he had a went, but when I left that night to go home, he had ran into the locker room. I didn't think any of it, until I noticed red lips on his cheek and lower lip. I had knew then that he was two timing me. I had broke it off from there on out, and at first, only Adam knew. I didn't want anything to do him. I kicked him out my life entirely because at that point I didn't know how to deal with it. But I didn't cry over it, I saw it as a way to do something new. And I did what Britt did, I asked my mother if I could go to hockey camp for the summer. I did, and the best thing at that time is that I walked around with a smile on my face while Charlie walked around depressed.
Senior year came around and he had stopped me in the hall after gum class, asking if we could talk. I told to him to make quick, he ended up telling me how he screwed up and that his life wasn't bright and at it's fullest without me. He told me what I wanted to hear. Told me why he loved me, why he didn't want to loose me and had said that he was stupid for even going out with another girl while he was with me. I had told him that I was even stupid for giving him a second chance. But that second change led me to today. I've got three healthy sons and a wonderful husband and amazing friends. I couldn't ask for more.
Braelynn, Abbie, Dillon, and Michael all played together. And did the usual thing, they played tag and ran around the benches. They weren't loud, so we didn't care if they ran around. it was better than having them whine and cry. Charlie, being a Coach, had just told all of us to make sure that none of the kids had bothered him or the hockey teams, Coaches, and refs.
I watched Cody as he was on a breakaway. If he scores, then that sums the game, and they claim victory. We all stood up, watching attentively. We all were quiet, while Charlie had told Cody to go all the way. He went for it all right. He shoot and just after shooting, one of the opposing players had checked him into the goal's post, knocking Cody's helmet off. Within seconds, all you heard was is Brittney's gasp and then her running down the to the box to go see if her son was all right. Adam walked down with Dillon in his arms.
Cody was a strong player. They were all strong players. All of our kids were, but some were stronger than others. Cody didn't have a dad there full time for five years of his life. And Brittney did say that she didn't want kids until Adam was done with traveling. She knew he didn't want to stop, but someone had to made sacrifice. It was either he did, or they had no kids. I guess she compromised. But Cody was young, but he still knows that his dad wasn't there when he was young. So when his friends and my kids talk about their dads and when they were young, he has nothing to say about it. His sister was too young to even know and still is a little.
After the game, I walked outside with Charlie and the boys to the car. The others had all branched off to go to their houses or where ever. Charlie carried Jeremy out and Michael walked in front of us while Caleb was talking about Cody fall at the end of the game. We arrived at the car after they had gotten outside. Now that Caleb's game was over, I had to stay behind since Michael had a hockey practice.
Before Charlie left with Jeremy and Caleb, he handed me Michael's bag and kissed my cheek. "I'll see you tonight, Char," I told him and kissed his cheek now. Michael yanked on my jacket and I smiled and looked down at him.
"Mom, I'm going to be late," He said.
"Don't worry bud, one day you'll get a girlfriend and your brothers will say the same thing," Charlie said, and chuckled. I slapped his chest playfully and he walked to the driver's side of the car. I walked back to the arena with Michael.
Walking into the locker room, I set Mike's bag on the ground and start helping him out with his gear. Julie stood next to me a little frustrated. She had Abbie and Braelynn who played hockey as well. They were close friends with Michael and everyone knew that Caleb and some of his teammates would tease them for it. "You only have about eleven more years with them, Jules, don't give up, yet," I chuckled.
To this day, I still didn't think that I'd be here with three boys, two of them are in hockey and the last one will be starting hockey. I just, I didn't imagine myself here, with kids, and Charlie. Charlie was the first boy I ever loved, and we dated, broke up, and dated again until it led to marriage eight and a half years ago. I haven't regretted anything, it's all been a mystery and the rest of my life awaits me.
