Aaron slammed the door behind him. The sound echoed through the empty house. He was relieved that his parents were not home. He felt like he needed a good cry and nap.

He was never officially guilt-tripped, but he found out he sat next to the ravenette he had hip checked that morning, Aphmau. Her voice was still uncomfortably familiar, but it hurt his head to try to decipher all his thoughts.

His parents left nothing to say when they would be back. His older sister was in college and would return around Thanksgiving. He was alone, but that was nothing new. He always felt alone but was usually left home alone since his mother and father worked out of town a lot.

Aaron pulled out his phone to be met with disappointment. Shu had texted him around twenty minutes ago that she was unable to talk. One of the only times Aaron may actually have been able to face call, and Shu was busy.

Sadness overtook him. He had to remember that Shu had better things to do than listen to him whine. She had friends and a family who loved her. She had things Aaron craved, things his father forbid him from having.

I shouldn't be envious of someone with things that I technically have. There are people who have less...

Aaron sat down on the couch and put his head in his hands. His mind buzzed with the overwhelming feeling of exhaust and stress. He tried to hang on to one thought. What calms me down at times like this?

He rubbed his eyes and stood up. With a slight stagger, he made his way up to his room. He didn't care about chores, he just needed to calm down.

***

Aaron was never one to gossip. He never enjoyed gathering dirt on people who he never met, but when he heard of it going on, he tried to stop it. Even if it was that not- so- pesky noirette he had slowly gotten close to.

Aphmau turned out to be just an eccentric girl taken fresh out of the homeschooling system. She was kind-hearted and overall enjoyable to be around. Her smile was contagious. She was adored by almost everyone who met her.

Almost everyone.

Gene Charleston was the one person who genuinely hated her. He was the leader of a gang of misfits called 'The Shadow Knights' who did nothing but skip school and spray paint their logo on anything they could get their hands on. They were no physical threat, but Gene had blackmail on Aphmau for no reason but to mess with her.

Aaron, like usual, was silently walking down the hall between classes. His focus wavered from conversation to conversation, until he settled on someone.

"You promised you wouldn't send that! I did everything you asked me! I tagged something, I skipped with you guys, and yet your still threatening me?!" Aphmau cried, her voice straining to hold back the fact she was on the verge of tears.

"I haven't sent it yet, Kitty~. I just have one more task for you." Gene taunted. Aaron could tell Aphmau was struggling to reach something that was just out of her reach.

Aaron turned the corner to be able to see what was happening. Gene was on his tiptoes while Aphmau was jumping to reach his phone. On the screen was a blur of blond and black hair. Garroth and Aphmau...

"Anything! Please, just don't send it!" Aphmau fell to her knees, worn out from the jumping.

"Good Kitty! Now, take out your phone~..." Aphmau did as instructed. "Send the following picture to the entire school." Gene was smirking.

Aphmau gasped when her phone went off. "N- No! I- I won't do it!" She was sobbing at that point, her voice was hopeless. "I can't! I won't!"

"Hm. Guess I'll have to-"

Aaron was unable to standby. He swiftly made his way to Gene and Aphmau and knocked Gene's phone just in his path before breaking it.

"My phone! You broke my phone!" Gene shouted. Aaron winced, knowing how it felt to have a phone broken by someone who was not the owner.

"You shouldn't leave it where it could get broken, dumbass." Aaron spat before walking away. He had nothing else to say to neither Gene nor Aphmau. He would talk to her later, in werewolf class, maybe. But right then, he needed to bask in his glory. Gene was an all around jerk to everyone, and hopefully, Aaron was his match.

"Hey, weirdo!" Aphmau called, quickly catching up to Aaron. Her eyes were bloodshot and her cheeks were puffy. "Thanks for that back there."

Aaron mumbled 'Your welcome' and continued walking. Aphmau kept pace with him.

"You really didn't have to do that, you know. I would've handled it on my own." Aphmau lightly shoved Aaron, earning a wince from the male.

"Yeah? Well, I didn't help you, I was shutting him up. You two were making a scene." He snarled. He shoved his hands in his pockets.

"Well, I'm gonna say you helped me." Aphmau stepped in front of Aaron, stopping him. She then did something only his sister had ever done.

She hugged him. She genuinely hugged him. Her head rested on his chest and her short arms struggled to meet behind him.

Aaron pushed her away and bolted for the music practice room. He always went there to play the guitar and calm down, but playing seemed impossible with the tears blurring his eyes.

The door slammed behind him, slightly shaking the instruments. He sunk along the door behind him and brought his knees to his chest.

You barely know her, why are you crying over this?

Aaron cried from happiness. He cried from the momentary comfort the hug provided. He cried from pushing her away. He cried from being rude to her. He cried because he was over all overwhelmed. He cried because he never had someone out side his family and game show care for him.

He cried because he was never more content.
