Words: 1308 Summary: Each day, you would meet Ivar and sit with him in calm contemplation. However, one day, he breaks tradition and skips a day.
__________
Sun streamed through the tree's branches. A song of birds echoed throughout the woods. And all the while, you ran through with a brightness the outshone the rest of Kattegat. Your laughter plagued the air while you ran your hands over the earth. Like your father, you were childish in your ways. You saw the world in a new light. You were a girl who everyone desired to be around. So, no one could understand how Ivar the Boneless was your closest friend. Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd, they could understand. However, it was something about you and Ivar that stunned the people.
Eventually, you reached the hidden area you and the youngest prince shared. You had found it when you had first met. Since that day, his vulnerability was no stranger to you. For you found him crying, punching at his thighs, willing his legs to work.
"You shouldn't do that" you remembered telling him. He whipped his head around, his cheeks streaked with tears.
"Go away!" he screamed. He didn't want you to see him like that, he didn't want any body to.
"No, I can help!" You said. You flashed a toothless smile as you approached. He was hesitant at first. You did try capture him in a hug. Plus, he didn't know you.
Aslaug had yet to ask your father to mentor him.
When he finally stopped fighting, you held his head close to your chest. And while he calmed down, you sang a little song. This did in fact calm him.
Therefore, every day, when the sun was at its highest peak in the sky, you did just that. Ivar would come even when he was in pain. Even now and then when Sigurd got on his nerves.
"You're late" Ivar grumbled, as he was propped up against a tree.
"Well I'm sorry my prince" you said sardonically, ending it off with a high pitched giggle.
Ivar normally couldn't stand your hyper nature. However, he had slowly gotten used to it over the years. Like always, he shuffled down as you sat beside him, meaning he could rest his head on your lap. Carefully, you raked your nails over his sculpt. It ultimately calmed him and added to the serenity drowning the atmosphere.
Finally, a sigh out of comfort escaped from his lips as he lulled his eyes closed.
Unknown to himself, you studied his every feature. It amazed you how he could think himself so insignificant, when your world deemed him so important.
"Stop staring" Ivar said, a smirk growing on his once calm expression.
"I'm not staring, I'm closely observing" you replied.
