A/N: If you're confused. This is after the battle with Lagertha.

__________

"So much blood..." you mumbled, looking over the once alive man you had in your care. And still, many warriors were being carried off ships.

Crimson stained your dress and hands. You were still young and in training to be a healer. However, your inexperience didn't matter when your mentor was short on doctors.

You watched the man below you, the man you desperately tried to help but he now laid lifeless at your feet. Death glazed over his grey orbs and a blue pall of death was already tinting his skin.

"(Y/N)?" Gunborg (an elderly woman), said your name in a questioning manner, placing her hand on your shoulder to comfort you.

You couldn't stop trembling, you were shaking like a leaf with your chin fixed to the collar of your dress.

"Y-Yes..." you stumbled out, finally looking up to her.

Her forehead was covered in a thick blanket of sweat as it wrinkled with a sympathetic smile.

"Why don't you rest? You've been here all night" she suggested.

Her voice was calming yet persuasive at the same time, causing you to nod your head frantically and stagger over the bodies, careful not to trip.

The screams of pain eventually became silenced as you shuffled to your hut. The closer to the great hall, the more quiet it was. It was loud for leaving you with your haunting thoughts. The visions of the men and women writhing under your touch made you shiver.

It was like you had drifted from the world, could no longer grasp your consciousness yet you still continued onward. That was until a hard object blocked your path.

Cold air felt like it was trickling down your tear stained cheeks. The night's wind made goosebumps rise on your bare skin, but that wasn't the only cause. Being in the the presence of Ivar the Boneless let fear course through your body.

However, he wasn't mean. He just looked down on you with a ghost of a smile before wrapping his arm around your shoulders and bringing you into his chest. It was uncommon to hear of this man acting so. But, you took his kindness with a deep thanks. It allowed you to muffle your sobs, your screams of fear and failure.

"Shhhh... It's okay... Everything will be okay" he cooed. Meanwhile, he ran his thumb in circles across your upper arm. He had a strange aura that engulfed you both, it brought you relief and contentment.

You knew of him. You doubted he knew of you until this moment. Because behind that weird sense of familiarity, was a deep care and love. One which would soon fill you with an agonising ache until it was yours and yours alone.
