Depression is her war.

She offers empty smiles, she has broken dreams.

Everyday is a continuing battle.

The pain takes her to new extremes.

 -

“How are you?” they ask.

She remembers the broken promises, how the people changed,

“Fine,” she says, the same lie everyday.

Why can’t her life be rearranged?

 -

Sticks and stones may break her bones,

Punches are thrown and blood is shed.

The words force their way into her mind and heart.

Going to school was to dread.

 -

“Ugly, tired, stupid, fat, lonely, sad, lazy, insecure.”

She’s hurting inside, amidst the downpour of rain,

Their words are drowning her.

She goes through so much pain.

 -

She’s full of broken thoughts,

Stuck beyond burnt bridges, running with cut thighs,

And she knows she can’t be saved.

In the pain she cries.

 -

She’s silently screaming inside,

Full of dark secrets, living with dead heart,

Even she wonders if she’s still alive.

On her body she puts her art.

 -

She knows of their lies,

And the words hurt so she starves.

She doesn’t want to play their games anymore.

The pain in her skin she carves.

 -

Death seems more and more perfect,

With one truth, and no hope,

She knows the end is near.

She longed for a new way to cope.

 -

They called “Emergency!” and the ambulance came,

Took them to the bright lights and the hospital bed,

They’d found her in a crimson pool on the bathroom floor.

They’ll soon find out she’s dead.

 -

The voices finally killed her,

So now breaking hearts, she finally flies,

Filling their empty hearts with shadows of her memory.

They learn to listen to a girl who lies.

 -

Depression was her war.

She offered empty smiles, she had broken dreams.

Everyday was a continuing battle.

The pain took her to the extremes.
