12/30/17 - 1/1/18

You woke up to a rather lovely scent. Groaning, you rubbed your face as you went to stand. However, you quickly flumped onto the floor face-first. "What?" You asked in confusion. Rubbing your eyes, you noticed you were beside Sonic's hammock. "I could've swore I was in the couch...."

You stood up and brushed yourself off and looked around in hopes of finding the source of the scent. You gasped in awe when you saw a beautiful bouquet of stunning, red roses resting in a vase in the counter. They were still wrapped in their sparkly wrapping, which was tied together by a pretty, pink ribbon's bow.

But what intrigued you the most were the two roses, completely different than the red ones, that stood right out. A beautiful, royal-blue rose rested abreast of a gorgeous, (f/c) rose. You gently stroked the fragile petals of both roses. "This is so pretty!"

You went to grab the vase so you could move them into the sunlight, but you felt something. It felt like a stiff paper. You detached it from the ribbon and inspected the folded paper, finding it to be a card. You opened it to read:

Blue is me
The same as the sea

(F/c) is you
The favorite color you didn't think I knew.

The red, to you, is unknown
It's something only shared once out of the zone.

The moment you can decipher what I mean,
Head for the two trees with a pond between.

You tilted your head in confusion as you went to sit on the couch with letter in hand. "The blue is Sonic, and the (f/c) is, obviously, me. But the red?" You reread the sentence over and over. Something only shared once out of the zone? What zone? What even is the zone? You sighed. "It's not like I can ask Sonic. He'd probably tell me to figure it out on my own."

You took the letter back to the roses and set it on the counter. And, since Sonic wasn't in the shack, you ran over to your bag and pulled something out. It was a bright, shiny, sparkling ring. No, it wasn't a ring to be worn. The thing was about half the size of a hula-hoop for crying out loud!

You had picked this up in the town yesterday after eating at Meh Burger with Sonic. You giggled, remembering how stubborn he had been about wanting to go with you and how he didn't care it was a surprise. Yet somehow, you managed to convince him to give up. You were also pretty lucky that the whole Doomsday disaster happened because it got Sonic's mind off of it.

But why a ring? Well, on the day you came to Bygone, Chris had told you about a blue fellow and his association with rings. So a while ago, before Buster had ruined the phone, you had called Chris and asked him to find a ring. He then brought it with him on his ship to the island and generously allowed you to take it without having to pay.

You smiled as you looked on the engraving on the side of the ring. You had chosen the phrase yourself and even engraved it into the gold on your own. It read: To Sonic, for whom both my love and gratitude is infinite. ♥️

"Hopefully he likes it." Your smile slightly faltered. "He's probably going to think it's cheesy...." You put it back in your bag. "What if he doesn't like it? What if he laughs? ....I'll just have to wait and see. Now, when should I give it to him?"

You are broken from your thought when you heard a loud crash. You ran outside and looked over at Tails's shack, finding a huge cloud of dust pouring out of the windows and into the air above it like a cloud.

You slammed the door open, coughing. "What the heck is going on?" You asked in between coughs. You see Sonic trying to pull Tails out of a huge vacuum cleaner, which built up so much momentum that it sent Sonic and Tails crashing into the wall when Tails was released.
