"They slow dance when it rains. I have no idea why, but every time the sky turns gray, you'll find them together... It's like no matter what happens, they can find themselves again there."
America's POV
This time I was in the little
family room Maxon and I had made for us and the twins. Maxon was doing paperwork downstairs, so I was in charge of the kids. I was sitting in the corner of the room, reading a magazine and giggling at my adorable children. They were sitting on the floor coloring in a coloring book, and having a conversation about what color was the best."I like red the best," said little
Eadlyn.
"Well my favorite is blue!" announced Ahren. "Mommy, which color do you think is the best?"
I giggled and said, "Well I have always been fond of blue."
Ahren stuck his tongue out at his sister and said, "Haha I told you blue was better!" Eadlyn rolled her eyes and giggled."Mommy, we're thirsty!"
whined Eadlyn.
"Well you're just going to have to wait a minute," I said, "I can't leave you two in here alone. You're only three." They both frowned. Luckily, Mary came in just in time.
"Is there anything you guys need, America?" she asked.
"Oh, yes, actually! Could you bring two glasses of water for the twins?"
"I'm on it!" she replied.
"Kids what do you say to Mary?" I asked looking at the Eadlyn and Ahren.
"Thank you, Miss Mary!" they said in unison. Mary smiled, and she left the room. After a few minutes, I was
getting a little bored of talking about crayons. Then I heard a faint tapping noise on the roof. Tap tap! Tap tap! It was raining. Forgetting about the kids, I hurriedly ran out of the room. Right outside the doorway, I saw Mary carrying two cups of water on a tray. "Oh, hey Mary! Can you watch the twins? Thanks!" I called, swerving around the corner. Mary just laughed. She knew exactly where I was going.I rushed through the hall, down
a flight of stairs, and around the corner. When I reached the second floor, I bumped right into Maxon, who also appeared to be running. I fell back, but Maxon stepped forward, catching me in a dip position. He pulled me up and spun me around. "It's raining," I said softly.
"I know," he replied. "Shall we, my dear?" I giggled.
"Did you really just use 'shall' and 'my dear' in the same sentence?"
"I'm afraid I did," he responded. "What are you going to do about it?"
I laughed, and replied, "Well I was thinking about kneeing you in the 'thigh.'""Oh come on, you know you
love it," he said jokingly.
"I do, much as I hate to admit it," I replied.
"So, do you want to head upstairs?" He asked. I answered by reaching up for his hand and leading him up the staircase.Once we made it to the roof,
Maxon reached his hand out to me and asked with a smile, "May I have this dance?" I felt my cheeks turn red as I nodded, feeling absolutely giddy. We slow danced traditionally for a few minutes, with nothing but the rain to keep the time. Then he pulled me closer. We kissed slowly and peacefully, taking a break from being King and Queen, and for a moment we were just husband and wife.I dug my hands into his wet
hair. After a few minutes, Maxon pulled back slightly. He ran his warm lips up my nose and forehead to the top of my head and planted a gentle kiss there. "You're so pretty when you're a mess," he whispered. I knew that was a reference to the first time we did this.
"Thank you. For that and for the rain not giving up," I replied, smiling. He paused for a moment,
looking up as if he was trying to remember exactly what he said next. "You're worth it. I don't think you get that. You're worth it to me," he added after a second. We both smiled, and I let a little laugh escape.
"I love that we do this," I said.
"I love everything we do," he responded. He grabbed onto my hands, fiddling with my wedding ring.
"Every time we dance I fall in love with you all over again," I said with a smile.
He spoke softly, "You are easily the best thing that's ever happened to me."
"I'm going to have to agree with you," I whispered back.
