The Fight

~Aaron's POV~

I'm awoken from my sleep by Ichika. "Hey, I'm going to the cafeteria, would you like to join me?" "Sure, on one condition. You can only invite Houki" "Fair enough, I was going to ask her anyway" "Cool, now if you excuse me, I'll be in the cafeteria. I'll save you a table" "Thanks man"

I grab my stuff and walk out the door. Ugh, if only Chifuyu didn't take my cigs, now I'm being forced into a very awkward situation. I grab my food and found an empty table. This food is delicious. I see Ichika and Houki walk in with Houki being dragged by Ichika. After they grab their food, I wave them over. "Glad you decided to join me. Welcome"

"Thanks for keeping the table open" "Don't worry about it. Anyways, don't you have something you should be asking her?" I ask as I point to Houki. "You're right. Houki, will you train me in using an I.S? I feel like I'm going to lose to her." "Of course you are, you let her provoke you" "I know that, but please help me."

Before Houki can answer, even though I know what she was going to say, another student walked up to us. "Hey. You're the boys everyone's talking about, right?" "I heard you're going to have a match with a national representative.." She says pointing at Ichika. "But, you're both total beginners, right?"

I don't say anything, but just keep eating my food. She then offered, "Would you like me to teach you about I.S?" "That's not necessary. I am teaching him" Houki said, entering the conversation. "You're a freshman, too, right? I'm a senior. I'm sure I'll be a better teacher than you" "I am Tabane Shinonono's younger sister"

The student looked shocked, "So we'll be fine, thank you" Houki says, answering Ichika's question. "O-Okay. Then fine" with that the student walked off. "So, you'll teach me?"

~Timeskip~

Ichika and Houki were sparring in the school dojo, and Ichika lost, easily. "Wow, since when did you get so weak?" "Shu- *pant* -t up" He says, out of breath. "What is the meaning of this?" Houki asked. "What do you mean?" Ichika asked. "Why have you become so weak?!" "In what club did you participate during middle school?!"

" 'Going straight home' club! Never missed a day in 3 years!" "I'm going to retrain you. This is beyond worrying about I.S. Everyday after school for 3 hours, I'll train you!" "Wait. I need to learn about I.S" "I said your problem is beyond I.S!" A couple girls in the dojo, watching us, started to ask themselves questions.

"Is Orimura actually pretty weak? Can he really move an I.S?" After I heard them talking, I refocus on the scene in front of me to see Ichika bowing is head down in defeat. After that we returned to the locker room. "Yo, Ichika, can we talk for a sec?" "Sure, what do you need?" "After watching you and Houki all day, I've decided to train you"

"Really? That's awesome, thanks man. When do we start?" "After your fight with Cecilia. It's your fight, and as another man, and friend, I will stay out of" "Hehe, you brought that fact huh? Well, I guess your terms are agreeable. So, what do we start with?" "Memorizing that reference manual that you threw away" I said, answering his question.

"Of course you'd start with that, but I guess I need to any way, or Chifuyu is going to kill me" after he said that, we both started laughing.

~Timeskip~

Like a fourth of the school came to watch the fight between Ichika and Cecilia. Me, Houki, and Ichika were standing in the loading bay, where Ichika was supposed to get in his I.S, but it hasn't gotten here yet. "Hey Houki" "What?" "You were supposed to teach me about I.S, right?" Houki didn't answer and just turned her head away.

"Ichika, your I.S hadn't arrived yet. Even if she wanted to, she wouldn't have been able to" I explain to Ichika. "Yea, but she could have taught me tactics, instead all we did was kendo" "Even if she would've taught you tactics, it wouldn't get through your thick skull unless you actually did the tactics in combat" Ichika can't argue with my answer.

After that, we looked towards the screen and saw Cecilia's I.S. "So that's her personal unit" Ichika pointed out. At that time, Ms. Yamada started speaking through the mike "Orimura! Orimura! Orimura! Your personal I.S has arrived!" "Get ready immediately, Orimura" Chifuyu said. "We have a limited time in this arena. Learn how to maneuver during the fight"

After she said that, a door opened up to our left. Is that the Byakushiki? "This is your personal I.S. Byakushiki" Ms. Yamada said, answering my question. "Huh, it suits you Ichika" I said to him. "Listen Ichika..." I said stopping him. "Yeah Aaron?" "If you somehow start winning, and if you think you've found her weakness, she's most likely has traps"

"Got it, thanks for the warning" he said before getting into his I.S. "Suit up now. We're short on time, so format and fit it during the fight" Chifuyu said. Ichika touched the I.S and recoiled in shock. "What is it?" Houki asked. "It feels different from when I first touched an I.S" Ichika said. "Is everything alright, Orimura?" Ms. Yamada asked.

"Yes. It's fine. I can feel it, I can understand it. I can tell what this is and why it exists. I can feel it" Ichika said in a cryptic riddle, to the girls, but I understood everything. After a second, Chifuyu started talking again, "Lean back into it. That's right, as if you're sitting" she said, helping him out. "The system will optimize itself for you" se added.

"Cecilia's unit is Blue Tears. It's an I.S outfitted for long-range combat. I.S come with a function called absolute defense. It's designed to, at the very least, save the pilot's life no matter what attack lands. However, when it activates, shield energy will be drained. You understand, right?" Ms. Yamada asked. "Orimura, are you feeling sick at all?" Chifuyu asks.

"I can do this!" was his answer. "Okay" "Houki" "Wh-What?" "I'm off" "Y-Yeah. Go win this" she says back. "See ya man and good luck" I say to him as he starts walking off. "Yeah, thanks"

After Ichika lost, I walked back to my room cause I was tired. "You got cocky, so you lost. You ignored or forgot my warning. But, at the same time, you almost won. I guess you have great potential" I said to myself, about Ichika. Well, I'll see tomorrow, Ichika.
