John sat by my side as I lay in the hospital bed, hooked up to monitors and IVs, with our son on his lap, still asleep. I looked over toward him and saw that his eyes were closed. He opened them almost instantly.

"I thought androids didn't need sleep?"

"We don't."

"Your eyes were closed."

He chuckled and nodded. "Yes, but imagine how absolutely creepy it would be for someone to come walking in, seeing me like that?"

I looked into his blue eyes. "Yeah."

"How are you?"

"How did you know to open your eyes?"

"I heard you open yours," he whispered.

"You can hear that," I said...it was even barely audible to myself.

He nodded, smiled and winked at me. He shifted Alexander in his arms when he whined for his cat and tenderly rubbed his back...This was something that John often did whenever the boys would have nightmares. I inhaled deeply and swallowed hard.

"What is it Babe? Do you need something for the pain?"

I shook my head. "No," I whispered. "I only need you."

John tightened his grip on Alexander and stood. He bent over and kissed my lips tenderly...his lips were almost velvety and very warm. "I'm here."

I nodded my head and drifted back into sleep.

While I was sleeping, Mam, David and Becca came to visit, quite shocked at seeing my husband's likeness sitting in the recliner, holding our son as he read to his father.

When I woke up, I learned that Mam elected to stay and had taken Alexander downstairs to the cafe for supper...it was only him and me.

"You're the second android, aren't you?"

He nodded. "Not too bad, huh?"

I smiled. "No, not too bad. Not at all."

"And I'm even the right age and everything," he teased.

"They told you about that, huh?"

"James One shared the information. Not like he really had a choice. But he likes you and wants you to be happy."

"Aww..."

"He wasn't too pleased to learn of what was supposed to happen to him though. I hope he's okay."

"I don't know?"

"Me either."

"Are there any upgrades that I should be aware of?"

"Upgrades?"

I nodded.

"Well," he began thoughtfully, "I've been programmed to fight for just in case. And I'm a kick-ass shadow boxer."

"A shadow-boxer...what's that?"

He grinned. "It means that I've never actually hit anyone."

"Oh," I laughed and inhaled sharply, causing me even more pain. "Oh my god..."

He nodded. "Mmhmm...I'll call a nurse."

I shook my head. "Mm, no. I need to be alert. The Others are all over this place. I can feel them."

"The Others?"

"Lucifer's people..."

He nodded. "Yeah. About him. He showed up here too, but swore me to secrecy unless you mentioned him first. You have, so I can tell you. You have an armed guard so to speak. Right outside that door. And there are several others on this floor and stationed outside. They're getting ready for a fight, Hannah. A big one."
