I was woken by the sound of Jake's voice saying, "What do you two think you're doing?"

I jumped up and said, "It's not what it looks like."

"Then what is it?" He looked really mad.

"He was just comforting me, that's all. Nothing happened between us I promise."

"It looks like he was doing more than comforting you."

He was getting so angry over nothing. Finally I just lost it, I yelled, "Why do you care anyways? You've never been there for me."

After I said that I ran away. I had no idea where I was going, but I just wanted to get out of there. I mean my dad just know starts caring after all those years. I don't know how long I was gone for, but when I got tired I stop. I was somewhere in the woods; not knowing where I am. I kept walking and walking and then when I moved this big tree branch out of the way and there was a rattle snake who was hissing at me. I couldn't run because there was a tree behind and I was so scared. I closed my eyes thinking my life is finally over when I heard a neigh and then stomping, when I opened my eyes there stood a beautiful gray-ish white horse who just stepped on the snake and killed it and saved my life.

I had never seen a horse like that, especially out here all alone. She was wild, a wild mustang. After I was admiring her I looked down at her hoof and saw that she got bit, so I decided to take her home with me, so she can get healed. I walked with her all the way back to the farm. I really didn't want to, but I knew I had to because if I didn't she would have died.

When I finally made it back, the first person to greet me was Jake. He ran up to me saying, "Are you okay? Why would you run away like that? Do you know the danger-?"

I interrupted him by saying, "Can you just give me a break? I have a horse here who saved me from a snake and got bit, can you just call a vet now?"

Jake went to call a vet and finally the vet came and asked me, "What happened exactly?"

"Well, I was out walking and a snake started coming out of nowhere and then the mustang came and killed it, but before she killed it she was bitten."

"What type of snake was it?"

    "A rattle snake."

"Okay. We need to move her to a stable." That's what we did and the vet looked at it and cleaned it and then bandaged it. Then came up to us and said, "I need her to stay off of her hoof for a couple of days before she starts moving again. When you want to have her move and exercise you will need to start off slow by walking and work your way up to running and jumping."

    "Okay." I said.

Once the vet left I started walking inside and I made it to the kitchen before Jake grabbed my arm and asked, "Why did you run away like that? I was worried sick when you ran off by yourself. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?" He was yelling by this point.

    "Why do you even care?"

"BECAUSE I'M YOUR FATHER!" He said still yelling.

I was really shocked that he said he was my father after all this time. So I looked at him and said, "No you're not." He looked really stunned by that statement and was speechless, so I thought I continued, "I can't believe after all these years you would call yourself my father. I have lived 10 years without someone to call my father and then you show up right after my mother's death; your ex-wife. I never even knew you. And you know all those years ever since I was seven I waited for you on my birthday and for Christmas, but you never showed up." I started tearing up a little bit. "I was only seven years old thinking it was my fault that you left us, and I never really knew why you left, so I don't think I should refer to call you dad or father."

He looked shocked that I just said that. Finally, he spoke, "I never thought you felt that way. You don't understand how it hurt me to leave you like that, but I had no choice."

"How did you not have a choice? Everyone has a choice."

"It's really complicated." He takes a deep breath and continues, "Your mom was the one to get rid of me. My job was leading me to here and your mom didn't want y'all to leave, so she said that she wanted me to leave and get out of y'alls lives. I didn't want to, but I had no choice to because it was my job and I needed to make money."

"Then why didn't you try to call or email or write or something?"

"I was too embarrassed to show my face or call you. I didn't want to hurt you, even though I can see I already did."

"Yeah you did. And I thought it was my fault that you left, I was only seven."

    "I knew and I'm sorry."

"You know you leaving isn't the only thing I feel guilty about, the other thing is my mother's death. I killed her." I said crying even more. "I killed my own mother."

"No you didn't. Your mom was in a terrible accident there was no way you could have caused that."

"But I did because I begged her to come to my competition and she was rushed and her car slid off the road. If I hadn't of rushed her she would still be here."

"Rose, you can't think that. You did not kill her, okay? You need to believe that."

He looked down at me as he gave me a hug and I looked up and said, "Okay."

I walked upstairs to my room, but I couldn't fall asleep, so I got out of my bed and walked to the stable where the mustang was that saved my life and I laid down with her. The only think I said was, "Thank you." I thought about all the events that happened today with finding the mustang and the talk with my dad. I finally had the answers I have been waiting for. Maybe I could end up like it here after all and before I knew it I was out like a light.
