He also likes being on camera, unlike his sister, and he likes to sometimes tease her about her crush on Keith.

Background: Nolan and his sister were born into a wealthy home, but he, and her, never really liked to rely on the staff a whole lot, so they always tried doing things themselves. With him being six years older than Lilli, he was always protective of her and hated it when she was bullied for having her NEXT abilities. Just like she, Nolan acquired his separately. In an act to protect his mom when they came home from the playground one night, he projected a ball of shadows at the mugger. Unlike his sister, no one bullied him for his ability. He later acquired his second ability, enhanced strength, when helping someone get out from under a car they were trapped beneath. But, his parents were afraid he would get bullied, since he was a NEXT with two abilities, so Nolan was taken out of public school and had home schooling.

When he was thirteen, his sister being seven, they came home to find the grisly remains of the staff and their parents all over the home. The trauma they experienced was greater for his sister than for him. The event only caused him rage, which he had been able to keep hidden very well since then and masked it with his goofy, fun-loving personality. He then got married at a rather young age, twenty, and he felt happy at the time. He loved his wife with all his heart and, soon enough, he would love his son with all his heart as well. But, sadly, both the love of his life and his unborn son were taken from him in a bank heist gone wrong. None of the culprits were found, and so he made himself a vow to bring justice and peace to his loved ones by finding their killer.

Not too long after his tragedy, he was hired by Titan Industry. He didn't like the fact that his little sister worked at a different company because he couldn't protect her as easily, but he knew he couldn't keep her safe all the time and that she was old enough to take care of herself. Besides, they both lived together, so they could at least spend some time together, as well as time together in the field when they're fighting crime. Also, with him being perceptive and the fact that he was close with his sister, he was able to figure out the deep admiration she felt for her fellow hero, Sky-High.
