Today James is turning 18 (he's not gonna get arrested though ) . We've been dating for over a year now, so I needed something special to get him. It's just he was so reserved, it could be hard. I had to turn to my mum for help. She was always one to turn to in boyfriend situations like this.
"Get him something little, but expensive. Maybe, a watch? Something convenient." She said casually doing the dishes.
"I'm not getting my boyfriend a watch for his 18th birthday! This is a big deal!"
"You can't buy him a car, y/n, can you? We're not made out of money! You think we poop gold or something?" She argues. I stomp off up to my room.
I finally have an idea. Running out the kitchen grabbing my bag and keys, I jumped in the car, driving to an animal shelter. There I found many small puppies and kittens. James didn't really strike me as a kitten type of guy, so I picked up a cute pit bull. Who knows if he even likes dogs. As I took him home he peed in my car, I yelled at him, but hat just made he pee even more.
Once I invited him over for his birthday dinner, which I, unfortunately, burned, I placed the little dog by the couch. But stupid dog jumped off and ran away, again. When I heard the door bell I ran up to the door, finally.
"James! Happy birthday!" I say hugging him. "I got you a little something."
"You didn't have to." He tells me.
"I wanted to!"I tell him walking over to get the dog. I hold him in my arms like a baby and walk over to him.
"Ahhh." He screams.
"What?! Do you not like dogs?!" I shout back, but he's already out the house. He comes back about five minutes later.
Apparently, he's very allergic to dogs. I guess it's good he ran out, but it made me feel quite bad. I had gone out of my way to get him a memorable gift and turns out he can't have it. I had to let him out to the back yard, but I'm still coming to keep him. He's kind of cute, even though he did pee in my car.
"I would have been ok with a watch or something."
"Really? Darn."
