Sam clapped along with the song and watched Cass twirl around and around, the dance required quite a lot of jubilant moves and she could tell her cousin would need a drink after this round, she had herself just ended from a dance and she looked down at her empty glass, standing she made her way to the food, a server gave her a new glass of water along with one for Cass, she turned to head back and her grip tightened on the small stems of the cup, the Prince of Kendix stood fifty feet away from her he was surrounded by a group of girls all giggling and batting their eyes.

He smiled at each of them, those perfect teeth and deep brown eyes, they had been hers, he had promised that but here he was breaking yet another promise.

She turned away from him and stormed to her table slamming the glasses down in enough fury to make them spoil a few drops, people gave her weird looks but soon disregarded her.

Cass came back at that moment trailing a group of three girls behind her.

"Sam! This is Bell, Taylor, and Sara!" She gestured to the girls they gave a quick greeting before all agreeing they needed a drink the three left and Sam handed Cass a glass.

When the three friends came back they sat next to Cass and delved right into high pitched conversing.

She caught a few snippets here and there but was mostly trying to keep her anger in check, she wanted to leave, if not go back home at least back to the inn, the night had already been ruined, but she didn't want to ruin Cass's night, she seemed to be having fun and it was unfair to stop her.

"Does Sam know?"
Sam suddenly snapped to attention at her name and she gapped up at the others.

"Sam?"
"I'm sorry I wasn't listening." She said sheepishly her already small form shrunk a little in embarrassment.

"We were just commenting on how since the Prince of our land is already wedded, the next best thing is Prince Ben, he's not married and will probably have many proposals by the end of the ball, we were just wondering if you knew."

Sam narrowed her eyes at Cass trying to be playful, "You don't think I'm going to make a proposal to him do you?"

"Well, he is of your age..." Bell said.

Sam gave a slight smile, "True, but it won't happen, why don't one of you ask?"

The four girls giggled, "You think he'd actually take us up on it?" Taylor asked, visibly jumping up and down in her seat a little.

Sam shrugged, "Why not, you're all as pretty as the rest of the girls floating around him."

"You're too kind Samantha." Sara said quietly.

"If you don't mind Cass, I'm going to get some fresh air." Sam stood and Cass waved her off going back to her conversation.

Sam wished they hadn't brought the Prince up, the open wound was still fresh and agonizing.

She did as she said and left the ballroom, she went out a side door and entered a long hallway that expanded out both left and right, she went right, not truly knowing where she was going, in her mind she remembered which turns she took wondering if she would get lost in vain of her efforts. At the end of the hallway, there was a large tapestry with two staircases descending on either side, large torches lighted the area and she looked behind her back down the hall wondering if these places were off limits.

There were no guards so it must not be that big of a deal.

She took the right staircase, it winded down for a short time before opening up into another hallway, directly across the way sat two heavy-set oak doors, intricate carvings on each panel made her gasp, it was beautiful.
