The group made its way through Hogsmeade, sharing stories with Virgil about previous times they'd hung out.
"And Dan couldn't move for like, two days!" the Hufflepuff of the group, Phil, finished, leaving the group in a fit of laughter. His boyfriend blushed, hiding his face furiously and leaning in close to whisper something into his ear. Phil's face went red as he swatted him away. "Daniel!"
The tall Gryffindor laughed knowingly, leaving Virgil to raise an eyebrow. He had a feeling he knew what he'd said, so he shrugged it off. His hair was soft yellow as he smiled, enjoy this new group of people who were making him feel like he belonged. No one was looking at him weird, no one was ridiculing him for his hair or his house; everything was just nice.
Other than the one nagging thing that turned a few strands of his hair blue. The Slytherin would glance over at his boyfriend to see him holding his head, or wincing at something. He'd told him it was just a headache, but he was starting to believe him less and less.
Why would he lie to me? Virgil thought worriedly. Does he not trust me? No, no, that's not it... he just doesn't want to worry me, but obviously failing.
The Slytherin laced their fingers together, making Roman look down in surprise. He smiled upon seeing him, but Virgil saw the pain there.
"Roman, what's going on?" he asked, voice low and line with concern. The Gryffindor opened his mouth, but the artist continued. "Don't say it's just a headache, I'm not stupid. Tell me the truth."
His boyfriend looked uncomfortably at his friends before meeting his boyfriend's eyes. "Not here, okay?" he muttered. "I promise, I swear, I'll explain later. You can hold me to it until I do, but please, not here..."
Virgil followed the way he was looking at Mary, the team captain. Understanding flashed through his mind as he nodded and looked down. Roman caught the way his hair turned blue with slight strands of black, guilt tugging at his chest. He squeezed his boyfriend's hand, offering him a smile when he looked up. The Slytherin gave him a shaky one back as a ripple of "aww"s sounded from the group.
"You two are actually adorable," Mary said, not being able to handle it. No one had heard what they were talking about. "I'm shocked Virgil didn't join us sooner!"
The Slytherin smiled nervously. "I'm just an anxious person," he mumbled.
"Well, you don't have to feel anxious around us," Daniel said, draping an arm around his Hufflepuff boyfriend. Phil giggled, nodding in agreement as the rest of the group also reassured him.
The group made its way to sit down inside the Three Broomsticks, each person at the table ordering their regular lunch orders. Virgil made sure to sit next to Roman, who squeezed his hand under the table. The Slytherin didn't say much, but he did smile as the group laughed and joked. His hair turned soft pink at the way his boyfriend laughed, a sound he'd never get tired of hearing.
"So, Virgil, what do you like to do?" Phil asked, smiling.
His heart raced as all eyes landed on him. "I-I... uh..." he stammered, looking at Roman with pleading eyes. He didn't know how to handle these situations. The Gryffindor caught on, speaking up.
"He's an artist!" he said, nodding to him in reassurance. "He's an amazing artist."
Virgil smiled a little, thankful for him stepping in. He noticed a strange look from a Ravenclaw he'd been introduced to by the name of Jack. He murmured something into his boyfriend's, Mark's, ear, making him look his way. He tried to ignore their looks as his hair turned slightly pale green.
"You should show us sometime!" Mary encouraged.
The Slytherin shrugged with a small nod. Once the group had finished eating and began its walk back to the castle, Virgil was pulled aside by Jack and Mark.
"Hey, don't freak out, we just want to make sure of something," Jack reassured as he shook.
"Roman's not... possessive over you or anything, right?"
Virgil looked at Mark like he was crazy. "W-What? No!" he replied with a gasp. "Why would you think that?"
"Sorry, I just noticed the way you looked to him to speak for you," Jack said, avoiding his eyes. "I've been in a relationship where I couldn't speak for myself before. It's not healthy, and I got worried."
The Slytherin looked shocked, but shook his head. "No, no, it's nothing like that," he said. "I just hate being put on the spot. I don't like all the attention."
Jack and Mark both sighed in relief. "I didn't think Roman would ever do something like that, I just wanted to make sure," Mark said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Sorry if we gave you a scare."
They began to catch up with the group as Virgil reassured them he was okay. It was when he saw Roman visibly sway on his feet that his hair shifted to blue. He made his way to him, wrapping an arm around his boyfriend's waist. "Still don't want to tell me what's going on?" he mumbled as the Gryffindor leaned into him.
"I told you... not here... not in front of the team..." he whispered back as he put an arm around his shoulders to play it off.
"Fine, but you're telling me as soon as we're back to the castle," Virgil muttered, concern lining his stern voice.
Roman flashed him a pained smirk. "Is Virgil worried about me?" he teased. The Slytherin rolled his eyes, smirking a tiny bit as he brushed his nose to his boyfriend's.
"Considering you're not, someone has to be."
